The rate was not increased by Pakistani govt, but by KSA. The Pakistani govt has just withdrawn the subsidies that was offered last year.

the moves of hajj subsidy and reducing income tax last year are now paying back PML N. they knew that the next govt wont be able to continue with this policy so they will be having a chance to bark against the new govt.

I usually hesitate to make far reaching statements, but I see your point. The case here is more on religious side, where if Islam has already exempt you from an obligation then why resources of a poor country should not be utilized in more urgent matters - such as the pathetic state of HDI!

Nothing is more basic for justice than equal treatment of all citizens under the law, and the government favoring any religion makes that problematic for many reasons, with a cascading set of consequences stemming from that mistake.

KSA is making hajj very expensive , you live in US and you know hajj is now very expensive. They are charging all development of Mecca and Madina to hajis . Plus, in future they have plan to increase the cost. Because it only biggest consistent source of income compare to oil.

I agree, so when the Pakistani government subsidizes the Haj, it's actually transferring limited Pakistani taxpayer money to the Saudis. We need those resources for health, education etc within Pakistan.

Why you pose taxes on hajj which relgions name your country been made im not saying airline do not take orofit from hajis but the profit to PPUA shoukd be average which in itself govt earning and pak govt already taking too much taxes in other itens tgre to four times on one item probleum is corruption eating those taxes

Not familiar with what PPUA is.
Taxes on airlines tickets include what they have to pay in overseas countries which are out of GOP.
Taxes on Airports within Pakistan are also legitimate as they include facilities costs and wages also on top of this its not like PIA is running in profit.

Exempting the Hajj from taxes would essentially be the equivalent of providing a subsidy since there is a loss of revenue associated with tax exemptions.

Then kindly remove taxes on Hajj services... Isn't this haram ? government imposing tax on hajjis ? Then why our taxes should subsidize the food,travelling in PIA and train of arm forces personnel? or simply as said the cinemas screens in cantonments/askaris..or has the government abolished quota for MNA/MPA and journalist? ...Your money is financing sikhs for easier route but it can't go for muslims .By your logic the list will go on..

Are there taxes specifically on Hajj services that are not applied on similar services in non-Hajj situations? For example, if taxes on airline travel for Haj are the same as for someone flying to Saudi Arabia for business purposes, then I don't see how those taxes are 'haraam'. The government has applied a consistent tax on travel.

I agree on the government not subsidizing the travel of individuals in the PIA etc, unless subsidized travel for PIA employees is part of the compensation package. For example companies will often give employees 'employee discounts', but this should be reviewed obviously to ensure that the 'discounts' are not hurting the company.

With respect to subsidies for Cinema's - these are no different than subsidies for any other industry. These subsidies are essentially an investment in the industry (cinema, agriculture, automotive etc) to promote investment so that the industry grows, hires more people and has a positive impact on the economy directly and indirectly, and down the road can contribute taxes.

Thing is, I am not even allowed to declare myself as Non Muslim because you know Islamic republic while at the same time same Islamic republic doesn't care to give subsidies to its Muslim citizens. Either make Pakistan completely Islamic or make it a secular country. Secularism, I am all in. Sharia, show some humanity and give me a safe passage to get out of this country.

Problem is, for me all this debate is about religion and religious laws in Pakistan.

But for guys like you and that Akhrot in Australia, it's all about politics and differences between different political parties and/or your support/dislike for them.

As society we have became polarized ...nothing is black and white..those who want to go should be respected and those who dont should nt be maligned ..
