6 of many others, I reckon from what i hear there are over 12 or more super luxury apartments are coming up in Colombo, It's suburbs and in Kandy and Galle, I'm no expert in real estate but is this kind of a property bubble ? Land and property prices in greater Colombo are just preposterous

Yep. It's a bubble. It's also black money. I remember when property prices per square foot average jumped ahead of Manhattan briefly in Yangon. It's stabled out a bit but still above most Western cities. Still waiting for that bubble to pop.

Over here it's being driven by speculation and money laundering of drug money. Does Sri Lanka have a sizeable shadow economy?

Well i was just speculating as well, Maybe this is natural for a post war economy, I wont say there is a shadow economy per se but during the last regime a lot of people made a lot of ill gotten money.. The Rajapaksa's themselves are naturalized American citizens with dual nationality so they have billions of siphoned off money in off shore accounts.. And ofcause the Tamil Diaspora who have made it in the West especially Canada and in Europe, Since the LTTE is over they have no terror machinery to invest on..

P.s. The inspiration for the mythical valley of Shangri-la in James Hilton's 1933 novel Lost Horizon comes Hunza Valley

Oh yes , I have heard and seen pics of that stunning part of the world, This Shangri La though is the famous hotel chain.. :-)

Good to see sky colour will also change after completion. No doubt skyscrapers are looking good in picture colours.

Lol.. True but generally Colombo air quality is a bit better than most of the sub continental cities, Probably because there is more greenery and the the sea front

Let overseas compatriots make some contribution......

Well some such as the Astoria(The one on the top of the list) wpuld be easier for Chinese to buy as it is done by AVIC

Its mostly due to the lack of proper land utilization and bad urban planning. Hope the megapolis project solves those instead of increasing the land value even more with those rail and elevated expressways.
