5G in 2020 – will Pakistan leapfrog or stay behind?

Please there is a world of difference between 5G speeds and 3G speeds. The jump between no mobile internet to a 3G was hugely disruptive which is not so in case of jump from 3G speeds to 5G. This is called marginal change and is used extensively in making business decisions.

Above is 3G segment growth rate per month in pakistan.

Also, you have to factor in one thing is, people who are using 3G will switch to 5G but the same amount of 2G users might not switch to 3G (check above stats as an indicator) . Consequently, what you will end up is more or less the 3G user segment divided between 3G and 5G subscriptions.

The switch to newer technologies is bound to happen. When newer technologies such as 4G/5G are made available to the masses we will always witness a significant drop in the subscriptions of legacy networks.

Also, the Pakistani market is quite complex. First you have to understand and identify the user base. It is not as simplified as developed markets.

Pakistan should definitely move ahead with the implementation of newer technologies such as 5G and it needs to do that with the help of Huawei which is one of the major leaders in network technologies. This is very important considering that Pakistan seeks to transform its economy to a knowledge based model. I'm convinced that Pakistan has huge potential in this sector. The IT sector is going to boom in Pakistan. Not a shred of doubt.

People are already paying more in Pakistan than in US. While considering the size to population ratio, Pakistani population is much more concentrated.

It doesn't matter what US peeps are paying. What matters is the cost networks incur to bring the connection to your doorstep (mobile). The latter would always be constant or higher in pak across generations of networks..

Well it's complex because you chose to understand in a convoluted way. For my perspective, things are pretty simple.

That's why I mentioned land area to population density. US is large, very large. It is costing fortune to upgrade networks to bring fibreoptic even one state. California alone is half the size of Pakistan with only 38 million people. While Pakistan is narrow and 1000 mile cable will do the job for almost the whole country of 200 million people.

You don't know what you're talking about. You don't understand the Pakistani market and its user base. You don't understand its requirements and dynamics.

The latter would always be constant or higher in pak across generations of networks.

How do you know this so surely? You ever been to Pakistan or can you even point it on the map? No, I'm not talking about the info that you gather on Fox news or Google.

First provide real 3G. Zong is cheating people in the name of super 3G.

True, phone packages in Pakistan are so expensive especially when you count the tax factor from every top up.

In UK, I have unlimited minutes, unlimited text messages, 16GB of 4G data for £20. I could get unlimited class, texts and 5GB data for £15 (and £10 if used cashback). But in Pakistan I used to top up 500 rupees after every 2-3 days and the Internet service was not satisfactory. Mobile packages are cheaper in UK compared to Pakistan

Well i am using warid and have 5GB 4G, 175 on net and 75 off net with 700 sms and 700MB whatsapp data for Rs 324.99
on postpaid sim. Albeit warids 4G speed sucks big time. Less than 3G
