ISLAMABAD: Amid traditional songs and dances, 56 Hindu couples got married Saturday night at a glittering mass wedding in Karachi organised by the Pakistan-Hindu Council.

The couples belonged to Karachi as well as the interior parts of Sindh where there is a sizeable Hindu population.

As many as 31 couples from Karachi and 25 from Sindh province entered into wedlock. The event continued till early Sunday.

The council set up separate mandaps for each wedding, where the couples took sacred marriage vows in front of the holy fire.

Each couple was given gifts to start their new life, the council said in a statement.

Eminent Pakistani social activist Abdul Sattar Edhi congratulated the council for conducting the wedding and gave away Rs.5,000 to each couple.

Hindu weddings in Pakistan are very well organised and a lot of fun, much like other weddings of the people who reside in Karachi.

Congratulations to the couples and I hope they have a better life in the future.

Btw, the best wedding food I ever had of any group was at a Bohra wedding.

This is good to hear that no attacks happened. I have heard about this Mr. Ehdi. A very wonderful social worker.

No attacks have ever taken place during weddings in Karachi. The city is host to streets full of wedding halls and they are all lit up every day for weddings.

Also such multiple Hindu weddings are very common and excellent way of keeping the financial strain on poor Hindu families limited.

The well off Hindu's pay for such group weddings through their council.

Mass wedding trend is getting popularity here in Pakistan and the interesting thing is that couples are given free gold, dowry and wedding dresses.

All this is done through charity collected by the concerned groups working for this.
