Gul, Cicek commemorates 559th anniversary of conquest of Istanbul

On the occasion of the 559th anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul, President Abdullah Gul issued a message, saying that Istanbul has become a world city thanks to its unique geographical and strategic location, as well as its great cultural, historical and natural heritage.
“I would like to reiterate once more that we are mostly responsible for preserving and transferring this unique heritage, which has provided the city with its actual identity. I mention the names of Ulubatlı Hasan, Fatih the Conqueror and all other heroes with God’s mercy and grace.”
In his message, Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek said that Istanbul, which has hosted great memories of our history, culture and faith, even today maintains its position as the most important city. “It is our common responsibility to preserve and develop the historical identity of this city, where Turkey’s heart beats,” Cicek added.

here in Pakistan on college level there is a chapter about this historic event. Sudied that. In annual exam two questions were from that chapter too. Btw Istunbul is my favourit city outside Pakistan.
