50 per cent increase in minimum wages for workers in Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal

I: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today announced a nearly 50 per cent increase in minimum wages for all working class in the national capital and urged the Prime Minister and all the CMs to do the same across the country. Speaking at a function to celebrate Independence Day at Chhatrasal Stadium here, Kejriwal said that Cabinet will clear the proposal to revise minimum wages later this week, asserting that policies that only take care of super rich won't work. "My government is for rich, middle and poor classes. However, AAP government works most for poor and middle class.

We are increasing minimum wages by about 50 per cent later this week," Kejriwal said. As per the government's proposal, the minimum wages for unskilled person will be Rs 14,052 against the existing Rs 9,568 in the national capital. Besides, the same for semiskilled and skilled persons will increase from Rs 10,582 to Rs 15,471 and from Rs 11,622 to 17,033 respectively. "Some traders and industrialists recently met me and asked that their profits will decrease once the government increases minimum wages. I want to assure that more money to poor will also boost the economy.

Policies that only take care of super rich won't work," he said. He said that with time poor are getting poorer, rich getting richer, adding that government will have to take responsibility of the aam aadmi (common man) working in Delhi and those who have less in life, should have more in law. "Prices of pulses and other items are increasing. The price of pulses has reached up to Rs 200 per kg. I appeal to Prime Minister and all Chief Ministers to do the same so that poor will be benefitted...," the Delhi Chief Minister said

The move comes after a 13member committee, formed by government to finalise the minimum wages for all classes unskilled, semiskilled and skilled submitted its report to the Labour Minister last week. However, FICCI, an industry body, had last week requested Labour Minister Gopal Rai not to increase minimum wages, saying that this may lead to shifting out of several industries from the national capital to neighbouring states. The industry body had also indicated that the proposed hike in minimum wages will severely "hurt" the growth of micro and small enterprises in the national capital and hence the AAP government should reconsider this proposal.

The currency is just going to get lower in value so this 50% increase will end up being worth the same as the original.

Welcome to socialist country of Delhi. Instead of increase in salary through skills and business requirements, great leader have increased the salary for votebank.. May drove business out from Delhi

Arvind Kejriwal is the biggest disappointment in my whole political life. I really believed in him once. The dreams that he has shown.

But he turned out to be a narcissistic asshole. All his slogan of above politics is moot.

This is a purely political move, to consolidate his vote bank. It is disastrous in economic terms, and impossible to be implemented.

Why only 50% increase, why not a million % increase?

That in one statement explains why you don't understand India.

Minimum Wages in India mean nothing, for most people are employed in the unofficial sector with no recourse to judicial remedy.

Even were it to be implementable, which it is not, it would only harm big and official businesses which have to hire officially.

This is a purely political move, for votes. Arvind Kejriwal has no intention/capacity/power to begin implementing it.

I am no Indian but I love Kajirwal. He is an honest, simple yet smart persona and is beating the $hit out of traditional Indian politicians.

I hope India has more Kijarwals and get out of their political quagmire and other examples like mindless Modi.

I hope Pakistan has more Kejriwals.

If you are unable to produce one, I will be more than happy to send you the original one for as long as you wish.

India is a different model of governance. We simply don't have the state capacity like China.

Indian Government is far less crucial to the economic growth of India, than the Chinese government is to that of China.

One plus point is that regardless of who comes in Indian Government, I'm sure that we will continue to grow at average pace of 5% for the next 25 years. Because the Indian Government matters less.

But the CHN Government and its policies matter. If the policies are good, and people smart, then China can still grow at 10%. But if the policies are bad, and people dumb, then China can as well go into recession territory.

Do you even know how Chinese officers at different level are examined yearly?
The index includes several hundred...Every index accounts for a mark.
Being a mayor in my city is 10 times harder than being a mayor in Delhi.
Creating jobs accounts for some marks, so does how many free housing you have built, how many trees you have grown....

OT seems like a risky move.

Did they do any sort of study before this move 50% is a huge increase and if this is a blanket increase across all industries then good luck to small businesses.

China's economy is slowing, but this does not mean that this recession.
China has joined the German "industrial 4.0" projects.
China's equipment manufacturing industry output value of more than $32000 in 2013, accounts for about a third of global output.
According to the Chinese government's plan, by 2025, China will invest $2 trillion to achieve industrial upgrading in an all-round way.
In the process of upgrading, economic slowdown is inevitable. Other factors also caused some impact.

Such as...Tibet' the minimum wage is 15000 Rs. .

Votes are more important.

OT seems like a risky move.
It doesn't make any sense to political votes for the country.
Also is unable to raise the income of the people.
