50 miscreants killed, 20 soldiers martyred in N. Waziristan gunbattles

I posted this in the "Indian involvement with anti-state elements in Pakistan" thread a while back.

It does not say India.

Could it not be Islamic fundamentalist countries promoting ummah?

If Afghanistan is in a turmoil, it does not serve India's interest.

Asim has stated that Indian consulates are being used to foment unrest in these areas.

Some on this forum state that India is slowly turning to be a US surrogate.

Isn't it odd that a "surrogate" of the US should ensure that the US is a failure in Afghanistan, which is so important to the dwindling US economy wherein the TAP Oil pipeline remains only a dream and US losing huge amount of dollars, apart from establishing a presence in Gwadar to neutralise the Chinese?

In this context, the use role in the failure of the IPI can be considered. IPI was a bonanza for all three countries, if I may add.

I am confident that you realise the importance of Gwadar to the Chinese and the importance to the US to countervail the presence.

I never said India on this thread - merely paraphrased the comments reported in the article.

In the thread I referenced, I did mention India, keeping in mind the subject of that particular thread. - but with the intention of initiating a discussion into what exactly the author was referring to.

Ahh.... the complexities of geo-politics.

Notwithstanding your input was helpful.

Geopolitics and geostrategy are strange animals!

Geo was reporting that contact has been establish with 30 out of 50 soliders as the radio went down after fighting took place.

Wazirastan war is the wrong war. Pakistan should pull out most of its Frontier constabulary (FC). Only a small fraction of our army should ultimately be deployed "within" Pakistan.

The real Talibanic (bubanic) plague is coming from Southern Afghanistan. We should use our army to attack that area. No need to use gunship on our own people, when Afghanis are the source of cancer.

A report today in papers also say that two F-16s droped 12 bombs....since when di dwe start using F-16s there.....and if we still dont come out good than what next?? Armour protection is a must ...very scary to even imagine that the move around in open trucks.....massive corruption there (i dare not say army here) also not helping the cause....whats happening is enevitable:(
Which Report ?

PA does not carrying missions with PAF bcoz of the possibal Casualities that civilians will suffer.

PLZ provide link. tnx

I disagree!
The War is Right but we are fighting it the wrong way.

Forty-five Pakistani soldiers and 130 pro-Taleban militants have died in two days of fierce fighting in North Waziristan, the Pakistani army says.
Earlier, the military said 50 of its troops had gone missing during the battle near the Afghan border.

The soldiers had disappeared after militants attacked security posts and an army patrol outside the town of Mir Ali over the weekend.

By Monday night, many of the men had been relocated, but 25 were found dead.

Fierce fighting

After a number of attacks on military convoys over the weekend, the army sent helicopter gunships and jet fighters to target suspected militant positions in several villages.
The army says the victims were militants and soldiers but local people report at least 10 civilians were among the dead.

Meanwhile, Lt Gen Ashfaq Kiani has become the new vice-chief of the army.

The former head of Pakistani intelligence is expected to become overall head of the army shortly if President Pervez Musharraf resigns from this position as promised.

He would inherit an army under growing pressure from insurgents in the tribal areas near the Afghan border.

Correspondents say that these military campaigns are deeply unpopular in Pakistan.

They are widely seen as carried out under American pressure since Washington wants Pakistan to crack down on pro-Taleban and al-Qaeda fighters near the Afghan border.

Low morale

However, it is believed the upper ranks of the army broadly accept this policy whatever their personal misgivings.

Analysts say the danger is in the lower ranks where morale seems to be low.

Another batch of more than 200 soldiers were captured recently by militants, and appear to have surrendered without a fight.

Correspondents say that Lt Gen Kiani will need all his skills to tackle the growing insurgency in the tribal areas.

Pro-Taleban militants have stepped up attacks on the army after a ceasefire collapsed in mid-July.

27 militants killed in S Waziristan

ISLAMABAD: At least 27 militants were killed in two days of clashes in South Waziristan along the border with Afghanistan, a military official told AFP on Wednesday.

The clashes broke out after pro-Taliban militants kidnapped four Pakistan soldiers in South Waziristan tribal district on Tuesday, the official said. “Five militants were killed yesterday and 22 overnight,” he said.

The official said the kidnapped soldiers were delivering food rations from one post to another when militants seized them. Their fate was not immediately known. After Pakistan forces fired at militants, five of them were killed and 20 were taken into custody, the official said.

Later a tribal peace council was convened but failed to resolve the stand-off, he said. Both sides used heavy weaponry in tit-for-tat firing that went on through the night, resulting in the death of 22 militants with no loss of life on the Army side, he said.

Rugged tribal areas along the Afghan border are a known hub of al-Qaeda and Taliban militants who slipped into the region after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in the wake of the September 11 attacks. Pakistan has deployed 90,000 troops to hunt down militants in the region.

We should not pull out now, Its the War we should win no matter what. No foreigner or citizen have right to enter in our country and tell us what to do and kill our people specially armed forces members they started they should pay for it now. Pakistan should use more technology and get more help from USA to decrease the causalities.
