Chairman JCSC in his opening remarks expressed, "the Defence and Security talks are being held at a time when the global and regional security dynamics are complex and rapidly reshaping, with many new and evolving challenges. In case of Pakistan, the myriad of internal and external challenges that we face, are largely intertwined. Pakistanis as a nation have exhibited the will and the resilience in braving through these challenges; and today we are succeeding in our struggle against terrorism and violent extremism. Sustaining success of our counter terrorism and counter insurgency operations is however, critically linked with our capacity enhancement and stabilisation of situation in Afghanistan. International community needs to share the burden of reconstruction and support for capacity building of our security forces, especially in cutting edge technologies. " The dialogue covered a wide range of issues with emphasis on evolving geo political and regional scenarios, the complexion of challenges confronting the two countries and approaches to dealing with these challenges. This was followed by extensive discussions and detailed analysis of the situation including the fragile spectre of strategic stability in the region. A complete review of ongoing military to military cooperation was also undertaken including measures to bolster the existing ties.

Appreciating the sacrifices made by the Government and People of Pakistan, Chief of Defence Forces, Australia offered his condolences for the martyrs of struggle against terrorism and violent extremism, expressed that Australia stands shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan in these challenging times and reiterated full support of Government and People of Australia in confronting these challenges.
