The French say, "Tout comprendre, tout pardonner". I know where they're coming from, and have empathy for them. It's like marrying a woman with a cultural legacy a thousand years old, and feeling the desperate insecurity that a refugee feels who has lost his own roots in what is now an alien country.

The trouble is that they are clever people, generous people, sociable, gregarious people, and their kids are just as good as the kids I've worked with in various fields, but they keep getting that feeling when they turn around and look over the fence and see what is going on.
