What's new

4K walk through newer American cities [not old cities like NYC]

American cities even the top tier high quality cities are unfortunately all built around the car and your videos are another shocking proof of this fact.

It's no comparison to the beauty of European cities. Even most Eastern Asian cities are better suited for pedestrians than many American urban centres.

That's correct because unlike in Europe the US population since the 1950's has been moving out of dense multi-unit US cities and into single-family housing.

While most of the world is urbanizing we are de-urbanizing.

While 17% of Turkey's population lives in just Instanbul...only ~10% of the US population lives in our top 20 biggest cities. If I list the top 50 biggest US cities by population the total just crosses 20%. This is a far different situation than you would expect to see in Europe.

The US population is far more spread out...hence the car culture.

Is that supposed to be shocker taking into account the US land mass?

Americans are blessed due to their geographical location.

It's a shocker to those who can't figure out why we have a car culture and suddenly aren't all jammed in high-rises in old big cities like NYC/Chicago/Philadelphia anymore (which BTW are decaying) like we were 100 years ago. Cars became affordable to the masses in the mid 1920s (also gasoline was CHEAP due to local production)...and not long after that we started scooting out.

The Federal Aid Highway Act of 1921, also called the Phipps Act (Pub. L. 67–87, 42 Stat. 212), sponsored by Sen. Lawrence C. Phipps (R) of Colorado, defined the Federal Aid Road program to develop an immense national highway system.

So with the rise of EV's in Europe (and gasoline prices HIGH) we MAY also see a shift out of the cities in European countries where electricity prices are low.

Beautiful locations no doubt.

But American female dressing sense is very poor.

Pakistani female dressing sense is very good and fashionable.

The narrative that is attempting to be pushed on PDF is that the US is full of decaying cities and infrastructure. That is certainly very true for old cities in the North that were built to house huge percentages of the US population back in 1900 (Detroit/Chicago/NYC/Philadelphia etc) .

But things have changed and those old cities are not housing large percentages of the US population anymore. People are moving to new housing elsewhere and those old cities are finding themselves stuck with extensive infrastructure (like subways) that they can't afford to maintain anymore. The people who are remaining in those old cities tend to be the ones who can't afford to move away to newer areas...causing a demographic shift to lower income. So to make matters worse you now have a user base that can't be taxed much to pay for city upkeep. You then see roads not paved and other urban blight.

Hmm..still no sign of bars over the windows like some "modernized" countries seem to have an abundance of in their new cities.

Santa Barbara (Spanish: Santa Bárbara, meaning 'Saint Barbara') is a coastal city in Santa Barbara County, California, of which it is also the county seat. Situated on a south-facing section of coastline, the longest such section on the West Coast of the United States, the city lies between the steeply rising Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Santa Barbara's climate is often described as Mediterranean, and the city has been dubbed "The American Riviera"
