What's new

48 police officers injured, 23 arrested in HK riot

Or they can trip and run over themselves when the tanks come rolling in. It will work out either way. They are now trouble makers, vandalists and (as Nihonjin san rightfully put it) unproductive anti government dissidents. They will no longer have support from the general public.

I see absolutely no productive measure for the inactions actually. These are not asking for dialogue , but actively engaged police for the purpose of engaging. Trust me, if ever we have such anti government protest as destructive like this happen in Japan, they would be silenced and put down in earnest and all arrested and sent to jail for sedition against the Nation.

Such wanton destructive anarchism is NOT innate in China or Japan, which treasures social harmony above all else. These are examples of radical individualism --- a WESTERN trait.

Even one of the pictures that @Hamartia Antidote posted of one protester being Carried off by police --- the guy seems like he was still screaming . No shame at all even in his demise.

I hope they beat the , pardon my French, living $hit out of him. Anarchist trash.

Exactly, they are a destructive force and they are not here for any form of constructive dialogues. Sad to say this, but I don't think the police will get far with these people if they carry on with their usual "we are using minimal force" approach.

Found an image circulating on social media of rioters using fake blood. My guess they want international sympathies. :disagree:

That was some 30 years ago (do note apartheid existed at the same time). Major social changes have happened since then. China is totally different to then, for the better -- proof or organic aspect of national development.

Second point; those protesters were in the national capital, and posed a civic threat to the function of the national government. Trust me, the United States is in no position to lecture the nation's on national liberty and threats of mass civic engagement. American history testifies to the paramount truth of how Washington will brutally put down armed protests the moment it harms national interests case in point :

  1. The 1886 Haymarket Riot
  2. Colorado Labor Law Riot
  3. 1921 Battle of Blair Mountain
  4. Green Corn Rebellion
  5. Oakland Protest Riot
  6. Occupy Wallstreet Riots

There are too many to list.
.

I'm not lecturing...in fact I'll add a key one with tanks you forgot to list:
The ‘Bonus Army’ War in Washington | History Net: Where History Comes Alive – World & US History Online | From the World's Largest History Magazine Publisher
You missed this one

These numb-nuts are living on borrowed time. Under Chapter 1, Article 5 of the Hong Kong Basic Law, it is stated: "The socialist system and policies shall not be practised in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the previous capitalist system and way of life shall remain unchanged for 50 years."

So beyond 2047, if things continue to deteriorate, I'm not surprised that Beijing may strip the "2 system rule" & enforce it's political will in Hong Kong, then these numb-nuts will regret the day they dig their own grave.

More talk on freedom and democracy. Less talk on law and order. Isn't that what Americans pitch to the rest of the world?

this has nothing to do with Americans :mod:

send in the tanks

I'm all for more law and order..and more police support...but be careful...don't give them too much encouragement or they may send the tanks in again...people may get run over.
We did that right . By restoring law and order , China embarked on a 3 decade long high growth path to prosperity. Today's result proved the correctness and justified China's action against the rioters 27 years ago.

We remember many things ,good and bad. Here in Beijing, the very site it took place, we believe it's a necessary thing to do and we did that right.

Beijing's GDP was just a fraction of Hong Kong's 30 years ago, actually Hong Kong's GDP was like half China's back then. but today, Hong Kong's GDP is negligible and Beijing has a much bigger GDP than Hong Kong's. That achievement should be something for them to remember.

That's we did after we brought justice to those rioters in Beijing and started building a dirt poor nation from nothing to today's prosperity. 30 years to be remembered.

Police shoot people on daily basis in US and US also holds the title of prison state with the fact that it boasts the most inmates in the whole world. .

Yep, but as I said if he wants his argument to have merit he will have to adjust his first point about the riot police being part of that.

I think the core problem is when a crime happens (even a petty one) in the US people actually call the police. The police show up and take down the details, file a report, and (eventually) an investigation happens.

In China...what percentage of people actually call the police to report an average incident (obviously if it is something very serious i would expect it would be reported)

For instance you come home and find somebody painted an obscene word on your door.

Or for instance (this isn't petty BTW) you come home and find somebody threw a rock through your home window.
Do you know how many Chinese people have cellphones and how quickly something negative can go viral on your mobile phone networks in a matter of minutes after it happens?

You really know nothing about China.

Bringing up 6.4 is really not necessary, it shows either you have no knowledge of how much China has changed since then, or you attempted to make a joke that is not funny. China is not that old China anymore, and the USA is still that good old USA.

You really need to go to China and live there for a while to fully understand the country that you seem to be so interested in and making comments on. Don't just live in partial truth that corporate "free media" feeds you, and think you can not be a victim of "brainwash".
