40 Years of "Innovation" in India

Situation is changing, but not comprehensively. Atleast I can tell from Pharmaceuticals point of view, cause I am one of scientist...

We Indians on this very forum accuse China for disregarding the Intellectual property. But the fact is we worst than they are.. (No disrespect for Chinese here)... Shortcuts for success is whats our Mantra in India.. There are innovations in India, but very few, may be we can count them on fingers (which matters)...

But, Generics business is good one and Indian pharma are earning crores and crores of rupees......

Let's not be in denial mode. Again we are closing our eyes by saying "but we are getting better....". Well we have been listening this from the last 65 years and still India is the worst in manufacturing or innovation for a country of its size!

India has been left impoverished by the license-raj-socialist-governement-quota regime. Unless we hit the root of the problem we are not NOT going to get our country better off. You cannot just close your eyes. India's failure as an economy is apparent.

Situation wont be same after 2017 when patent peak has been achieved... Every generic organization would be jumping in the ANDA for US market... The cost errosion would be there and thus margin of profit would be reduced significantly...

China on the other hand will allow its bulk drug mfg to go up, resulting in global cost reduction of Active Pharmaceutical ingredient... Hence they might have the monopolly on this buiness... The question is that, how much US allow the use of chinese mfg API in their market... But one thing for sure China will have significant influence in REST OF THE WORLD market...

Biggest driver of innovation is market. If Indians would have more trust in local products, as opposed to foreign imports, then Indian innovators would be encouraged.

This applies to any county.

Cant agree more than this...

"Need is the mother of all Invention"...
