4 or more Lt Generals to retire now

Hi,

As I stated earlier---it must not be the choice of the generals to retire before their term ends---just because they have been superceded by a junior general.

They serve the nation and that is what their focus needs to be.

They have already served the nation and they were due to retire in new few months in any way , your logic doesn't make any sense
Lets not judge military SOP's with your civilian mind

I am not and never was in the armed services. However I had a reasonably successful career as an engineer and in the process was required to attend quite a few management courses. The management principals are equally applicable to the armed forces where the discipline & professionalism has to be at the highest possible level.

Essence of leadership is the process of providing motivation and direction to your subordinates to accomplish a given corporate / military objective. Therefore the leader must be competent, clear headed, well informed and confident.

A good leadership involves far more than just issuing the orders. Juniors or the subordinates must accept the leader as a superior person to be influenced and motivated by the leader’s decisions. It is the motivation that supplies the will and initiative to do what is necessary to accomplish a mission. ‘Motivation’ comes from within, but the leader’s’ actions and words affect it.

Motivation must suffer when you are by-passed and superseded because you are obeying the orders from someone whom you don’t consider is better than you. In good corporate companies, one is told that he /she is not going to be promoted to a higher rank and offered the option to either continue in the same position or take an early retirement ( termed golden hand shake) and look for fresher pastures.

In the armed services, in addition to the lack of motivation, one would also lose respect of his sub-ordinates as someone who lacks self-esteem; hence his command would suffer. Therefore it is not the question of ego alone.

I would sincerely hope that 3-star generals of Pakistan Army keep their self-respect and keep up the tradition of opting for early retirement.

They have vast experience and this ego-centric tradition leaves army devoid of top leadership and it takes time to fill in the gap and by that time, it is already time for new chief.
It is not and ego-centric, they had almost (may be 2-3 months left) completed their term in current capacity. therefore they had to go.

Hi,

This tradition should be abolished----. It is worthless and serves no purpose---. The generals must serve their term regardless of promotion or not.

They are there to serve the nation.

Well Sir, than tradition of PM appointing CoAS should also be abolished and promotions be kept puerly institutional based on merits and performance!!
Actually, its disturbing to see state asset going waste, in order to serve personal interests of a cheap politician. This is not how civilized nations progress.

Gentlemen -

This is not right. This practise of super-ceding must be abolished immediately.

Selection should be on Merit. Present selection system is leading to loss of Best Talent...

We cant imagine 4 Lt gens retiring because they are super-ceding ...

To become LtGen Imagine the Experience and Capability...

All Lost as a Junior was jumped up the line --- Dont agree a Penny !!

Hi,

Military service and MOTIVATION are two different side of a coin that never see each other---.

If someone wants motivation---then don't join the military---and if someone wants to get motivated---military is the last place to look for it---.

Good old days---you could be executed for showing those symptoms---.

Need motivation if you have been superceded or bypassed for promotion---military is the last place for that excuse---.

Well Sir, than tradition of PM appointing CoAS should also be abolished and promotions be kept puerly institutional based on merits and performance!!

Hi,

You are correct---the selection of the commander in chief must be taken away from the prime minister and promotion made from institutional selection on merit.

Sir, I am confused, I thought the way it works is that they have already served; and their term in their current capacity has ended. Unless they got the higher up roles. So how is it that they've not served?

Second, any modern military does it the same way. If the same people clang onto their seats, how would you bring new blood and talent? Remember, when these guys took the advance warfare management courses and served at the front or in conflicts, that time and today's time are different, so are the weapon systems, needs and wants. So its optimal to continue to rotate and bring fresh, young blood in. Two of these guys went up so they have the strategic experience to now build more fine men like them. Thanks

I think u r right we need to bring new men

The tradition to resign if not selected is wrong. It means they work for themselves not country's interest. Which mean their ego is more important than serving the nation. I think we must change this habbit
