Yes, you guys have your own country. It is right that your loyalty should be towards your country of citizenship, not your country of ethnic origin.

But it's nice to have the cultural links too.

Agreed, in addition I had more exposure to China when I was young (90's) as my grandfather often went back to our ancestors village in Fujian. I believe many Singaporeans so too which is why in Xiamen you can find many Singaporean related businesses and that is due to the many of the migrants coming from Fujian to Singapore in the early 19th century.

Actually I believe he is working in Singapore probably in the finance sector IT/back office probably under a work permit pass. He display some traits which is common among certain individual staff I have come across from India (disclaimer this is not to say its an Indian traits but so happens I work more with Indian off shoring companies mainly with hiring & training)

1. Always insist he is right when he is not
2. Likes to assume things when in doubt
3. Imagines to able to take on more responsibility but in reality cannot handle his own work.

I bet his peer performance review would at least indicate one or few of the above, one day I will need to suss out HR on their vetting policies.

Well if they can come to where we are today I don't see it as a threat but more off an opportunity for us to all prosper together, the people of ASEAN definitely deserve better leaders
