Migrants from South China are more likely to use Tang, but it means the same thing anyway.

Nice, Chinese-Dragon has visited Singapore. Knows about 7-11 and Straits times. Can you tell me the most popular free newspaper in Singapore? Its pretty easy for you to miss this out on your visit Chinese-Dragon.

LOL, learn to read. He was asking you to look at TODAY's edition of the Straits Times, at the classified ads section. :lol:

The straight answer would be no, the 1st generation Chinese like my granddad did but we are third generation though we do have relatives in china. Being Chinese however there will always be a form of kinship and connection thru similar cultures etc

Yes, you guys have your own country. It is right that your loyalty should be towards your country of citizenship, not your country of ethnic origin. :)

But it's nice to have the cultural links too. :azn:

Well said buddy. :cheers:

Nakki Nair loves to bash Chinese people, but he keeps forgetting that the country he is living in (Singapore) is majority ethnic Chinese. :lol:

I think chinese jingoists will be disappointed to know that Singapore has nothing chinese about it ---- Even the name of the country Singapore has "Indian origins" ... Singapore means (Singh = Lion, and Pore = place / town) .. in Hindi.

Yes, there is a china town, as there is a Little India. Diwali is a national holiday in Singapore.

I can't stop laughting :rofl::rofl:

Singapore was an ancient city name built in the Southern Song Dynasty, China

it was called as sinhapur..sinha means lion in sanskrit..pur means city...but current name comes from malay singapura...any city in chinese dynastay which has pur at the end like nagpur,kolhapur ??

now who actually founded ancient singapore??
Sang Nila Utama (literally the "main indigo" or could also be, if pronounced differently, "Nila=Moon in Tamil and Utama=Primary) was a Srivijayan prince from Palembang who founded the kingdom of Singapura in 1324

Ya i know sinha means lion and its sanskirt word that is true

The English language name Singapore comes from Malay Palembang Singapura meaning "Lion City," which was in turn derived from Tamil.[1] Singa comes from the Tamil word singam (சிங்கம்), which means "lion". 'Oor (ஊர்) in Tamil means "town" and is a common suffix in many Indian names of places. The Name is due to resemblance of Singapore map to a Lion's head [2]

Yes, the original inhabitants were Malays, hence the name.

However, when Singapore got independence, they were majority ethnic Chinese. And they still are today.
