3G/4G Users in Pakistan Reach 32 Million

3G and 4G users reached 32 million in Pakistan at the end of July 2016 as mobile phone companies added a total of 2.2 million new 3G and 4G users to their networks during the reported month.

Mobile phone companies grew their 3G/4G users by almost eight percent, up from negative growth that operators showed just a month ahead in June 2016.

According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Mobilink alone added 1.2 million new 3G users on its network while Zong added another half million 3G users during the month.

Total number of 3G users by the end of July 2016 stood at 30.62 million while 4G users reached 1.16 million by the time.

Entire 3G/4G subscriber based reached 31.78 million.

Mobile phone users in Pakistan, from all operators, touched 133.28 million mark by the end of July 2016, marginally up from 133.24 million a month ahead.

Ufone and Warid lost over 700,000 customers combined during July 2016. Mobilink and Zong added almost 709,000 users during the reported month, while Telenor added 77K users during the month.

Total additions in mobile phone subscriptions during the month netted under 100K.

46 million 3G/4G broadband subscribers in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: There are 46 million 3G/4G broadband subscribers in Pakistan while 48 million people are using other internet connections. Over 141 million people are using mobile telephones.

As per statistics issued gathered till September 30, 2017 by regulator Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Wednesday, there exists 141 million total mobile users in the country with 70.25 cellular mobile tele-density till the period mentioned. A country of 220 million people is surpassing its neighbours in use of telecommunication technologies.


The major contribution in broadband growth has been made by mobile segment as 3G and 4G subscribers reached 46 million.

Till the period, Ufone 3G users reached 5.4 million, Telenor users reached 10.7 million, Mobilink 3G users reached 13.64 million and Zong 8.9 million. The number of 4G users of Telenor are around 9 lac, Mobilink 1.3 million and Zong 4.6 million.

Government facilitating/supporting the broadband service providers through Universal Service Fund for proliferation of Broadband to the unserved areas, allocating new frequencies in the various bands for WiMAX and introducing other new wireless technologies.

Various operators are deploying new technologies such as WiFi, EVDO, WiMAX, Optical Fibre Cable, DSL and HFC for access provision to capture market share in the Broadband sector.

Pakistan is one of the leading countries in the world in terms of WiMAX deployment with Mobilink, Wateen and Burraq have deployed WiMAX systems.

This has contributed in a tremendous growth of international bandwidth as well as rapid decrease in prices.
