37 Chinese fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters arrested

.
The China News Service (CNS) said that the Chinese fishermen were teaching local fishermen how to use the fishing tools on the trawlers. It also said the two boats might have been held for having conflicts with other fishermen while fishing and had nothing to do with the Chinese fishermen.

It's very odd. If the Chinese fishermen were teaching local Sri Lankan fishermen how to use the fishing tools on the trawlers, why is that there's only 2 Sri Lankan fishermen against 37 Chinese fishermen??? Why would they only teach 2 Sri Lankan fishermen how to operate the trawlers???

Do those 37 Chinese fishermen have work permits and passports???

The embassy had also contacted the Sri Lankan shipping company, asking it to help coordinate for an early release of the Chinese fishermen.

Did the Sri Lankan authorities investigated the Sri Lankan shipping company of being a Chinese dummy company???

You can instill all kind of doubts in the forum if you want, however, I'm sure the Sri Lankan authorities know the ground situation better and more capable than you for solving the mysteries. If they say it all a misunderstanding I just don't see why others keep debating the issue.

As usual you have problems of following the sequence of events that happen right in front of your eyes. My advice to you is read every post CAREFULLY before you make such an ignorant statement. Do you know what's going on here?

I commented based on OP, posted by Skyline, a Sri Lankan. What's wrong with my comment? Try to review the OP:

Sri Lanka Navy intercepted two trawlers with 37 Chinese fishermen onboard who were poaching in Sri Lankan waters last night.

Two Sri Lankans were also apprehended along with the Chinese nationals, Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.

Chinese fishermen can only engage in poaching 200 nautical miles off Sri Lanka’s coast however the arrested fishermen were poaching just 10-15 nautical miles east from Batticaloa.

The arrested Chinese fishermen will be handed over to Trincomalee harbor police, the spokesman said.

You think we would believe the explanation of CCP? 37 Chinese fishermen "were teaching 2 local fishermen how to use the fishing tools on the trawlers"?

Dont make me bw because laugh .

@ Bach Dang

If you have read my post #20 you would've known new events refuted the OP's article as a misunderstand and if you still make comments based on the original article, that means you're not doing your homework and skip many posts in between.

Sorry Monk, I dont believe at Globaltime.cn

The release of these violated fishermen may be because Sri Lankan government wants to keep friendship relations between the two countries.

I also see it very weird, how to 37 Chinese fishermen "were teaching" only 2 Sri Lankan "how to use the fishing tools on the trawlers"?

37 teachers with only 2 learners? This class is very high quality!

Fine, if you don't believe my source then read post #22 which is basically says the same thing. What I meant was if you did read either one of these posts you would not have compare the case here to the cases in Vietnam. Basically you made a disastrous trolling. :azn:

Weird or not we can only guess but I would not form any opinions unless I have some form of knowledge about it.

SL Navy hands over fishermen to Chinese diplomats

A group of Chinese fishermen who were intercepted while taking part in an illegal fishing operation have been handed over to Chinese diplomats, the Sri Lankan navy has said.

Chinese news agency Xinhua said earlier that the 37 men were under arrest.

But Sri Lanka, which enjoys warm ties with China, says they were never arrested and had been working as crew members on board two Sri Lankan boats.

The case has been seen as a test of the close ties between Beijing and Colombo.

A navy spokesman told the BBC Sinhala service that the fishermen, intercepted on Sunday off the east coast, were handed over to Chinese diplomats in the port of Trincomalee.

Earlier the Chinese embassy said it hoped their plight would be resolved quickly and “in accordance with the law”.

The BBC’s Charles Haviland, in Colombo, says that there are still questions about the status of the men, who were on board two trawlers along with two Sri Lankans who were arrested and then bailed.

“The fault is not with the [Chinese] crew. The case is against the [Sri Lankan] owner now,” navy spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya told the Reuters news agency.

“We have handed over the Chinese crew to officials from the Chinese embassy.”

Our correspondent says that they were apparently employed within Sri Lanka as crew members on board locally-owned boats chartered by a Sri Lankan company.

The Sri Lankan navy said that they were fishing on two trawlers 15 nautical miles off its east coast, clearly violating a 200-nautical mile limit.

Analysts say that Chinese fishermen - like those in Sunday’s incident - are increasingly travelling further afield because of a lack of fish closer to home.

China is investing heavily in Sri Lankan ports, railways and power stations, while extending liberal amounts of credit.

Beijing has lent the country millions of dollars for infrastructure projects, including assistance for a sea port in the south at Hambantota.

Sri Lanka’s government says that its growing ties with China are purely commercial. But some analysts speculate that Beijing is seeking a naval facility, a prospect that worries India. (BBC)

If trawler owned by sl dept of fisheries, and employed chinese men.. then what is illegal? Why handover them back chinese, without apology!

.
it is a simple case of Chinese poaching in Sri Lankan waters on some flimsy technical point... and then shifting the blame on the sri lankan persons and freeing its fishermen by colluding with SL offocials (who may have receved copious brides to allow Chinese to fish in SL waters)... simple China looting SL in collusion with SL officials... (pay bride to SL officials and make them your servent and then loot the nation.. no one objects and no one knows !! )
