Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said 66 bodies were placed at the National Hospital while 260 injured were receiving treatment there and 104 bodies were placed at the Negombo Hospital and 100 injured were receiving treatment at the Hospital.

Meanwhile, speaking to the Daily Mirror, Director of the National Hospital Dr. Anil Jasinghe said eleven foreign nationals from Poland, Denmark, China, Japan, Pakistan, USA, India, Morocco and Bangladesh are among the dead at the National Hospital.

The Director also said that 30 individuals were admitted to the Colombo North Hospital with injuries, while 69 were admitted to the Batticaloa Hospital, 55 at the Negombo hospital and 14 injured children were admitted to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital.

Well it will matter, attacking your own countrymen(assuming they aren't foriegners) on their major Holiday is grotesque and unacceptable. I don't know of any person who thinks it's okay to attack Churches. I do not understand how these extremists think. This sends a terrible message to the Christian community around the world.

And for those saying it's because of Churchchrist attack you're wrong. We are not reactionary people and Allah takes care of innocent victims and it's forbidden to try to think of a vengeance attack for something that an individual did.

Agreed, btw the motive is unknown, I just brought up the Churchchrist point because some in the thread think its related. It isn't , and this is unadulterated massacre of worshippers who have nothing to do with anything. And on Easter which is equivalent to Eid.

I don't see how Christians can look at us in a good manner even if it is just minority of extremists doing these attacks. It's too much and too often. May Allah help us.

Yes I can and here's the very simple explanation, have there been terror attacks in Australia, yes. Does ISIS have the ability to strike within the country, yes. Is Australia actively helping against the ISIS threat, yes. There are more than ample reasons that they would have struck against Australia for the attack in NZ. Churches and Christchurch do not connect, if that had been the case we would see attacks on churches in Muslim countries which would easier to do. I'm sorry I only see Indian posters writing about this.

Do you realise what would have happened if they targeted Buddhist shrines! The Muslim community would face riots they have never seen and be wiped out. The assaults were clever in targeting a community that the majority don't identify with much i.e. Christian Tamils, and on foreign guests.

I am Sri Lankan and many here including me think this can be a response to Christchurch attack. This may come as a surprise for you, but we had indications of a ISIS like attack in SL. And the government should be shamed and condemned for not protecting people.

1. Last year a bunch of Muslims were arrested for vandalising Buddha statues in Mawanella, Central part of Colombo
2. After their arrest authorities could locate hidden clay more mines and explosives. And newspaper reports said the investigations were still going on and there are more people involved in it.
3. A prominent Muslim in the area where vandalisation of Buddha statues occurred, helped the authorities in identifying the perpetrators and arresting them. Few days later he was gunned down by unidentified men at his home.
4. Muslim ministers in the government, like a month ago, asked for a meeting with higher ups in the government and complained to them that they are getting death threats from extremists and they have now become a nuisance to the Muslim community. They asked the government to take strict measuers to control the situ. But our gov again failed. So we had indications. I think network was already there, the moment they got a reason, like Christchurch attack probably one where its carders can be motivated. Churches can be soft targets.

And majoity who had died there are Sinhala Christians. I myself have relations injured and some of them saved by the last minute. Buddhist extremists though extremely vociferous are unable to do this. And the ones who were arrested in last years anti Muslim violence were mostly between 16-23. Some even cried at the court.
