FAISALABAD: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Ishtiaq Ahmad on Tuesday awarded a total of 259 years imprisonment to seven men found guilty of damaging, looting and burning down a power loom factory.
The convicts were also fined Rs3.4 million. The judge said if they failed to pay the fine, they would each undergo an additional prison term of two years and six months.
Thikriwala police had arrested Irfan Ali, Muhammad Ashfaq, Muhammad Rizwan, Maqsood Alam alias Sooda, Javaid alias Yaseen, Akbar Ali and Irshad Ali for damaging the factory, harassing the workers and creating a law and order situation on July 20, 2010.
After examining the evidence and recording statements of the witnesses, ATC judge Ishtiaq Ahmad awarded 8 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs200,000 each to the seven men under Section 436 of the PPC (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy a building).
The court also awarded four years imprisonment each and directed the convicts to pay a fine of Rs50,000 under Section 440 of the PPC (mischief committed after preparation made for causing death or hurt).
The judge also handed out an additional 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs100,000 each under Section 7-B of Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
The judge said if they failed to pay the amount, they would undergo an additional imprisonment of six months.
Each convict was also awarded 10 years imprisonment under Section 7-C of ATA, two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs20,000 under section 148 of PPC (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon). The convicts will have to undergo an additional term of two months if they failed to pay the fine.
The judge also awarded five years imprisonment and a fine of Rs20,000 to each convict under Section 21-C of the ATA and said they would have to undergo additional imprisonment of one month if they failed to pay the fine.
