2nd Afghan General to be killed this week ? [possibly involved in border clash]

The South did lose because the Union had much deeper pockets, the industrial base stronger, however, the conscription of black soldiers into the Union brought a big change to the field. Had General Stonewall Jackson lived the battle of Gettysburg which ultimately changed the tide of the civil war would have been different. General Jackson's assessment of the situation would have been much better than General Picketts at Gettysburg and he was far more disciplined. He was prone to change tactics that suited the environment of the battle.

We can never unify with Afghanistan if the present government exists in Kabul. The only region which can merge with Pakistan is the Pashtun areas. However, we have enough resources in FATA to become a commodity powerhouse in the future. There are reserves of gold, copper, iron, oil and gas much bigger than Balochistan.

Very interesting -- how did you study the American civil war? Books? Internet? Where would one start -- I bought some books but cracking them without prior knowledge proved intractable for me.

On Afghanistan -- well yes I agree with you -- hence the frightening answer that the current Kabul dispensation cannot be allowed to survive -- there must be a better answer

Read Charles Roster's book, "The Destructive War: Willia, Tecumseh, Stonewall Jackson and the American. I have mostly studied the American civil war through novels, and a great example is twelve years of slavery. The language is difficult to understand because its written in the 1860s after he was released from his master. It was a shame Solomon died a few years later. I have also watched a number of different documentaries on the civil war. I think the best way to tackle a subject is to read history before the conflict because then you'll know why certain things transpired. General Lee was never a bigot, yet he was a proud Virginian who wanted to protect his homeland from war.

The answer to the Afghan problem is simple, remove the Kabul elite and bring in the Taliban who'd have to share power. International troops must leave and India shouldn't be allowed to play a role in Afghanistan. They will have to accept the Durand Line and we can allow them to become a part of CPEC. If they don't abide by our rules, then we should take the Wakhan corridor and seal the rest of the border and mine everything single inch:) Brother @A-Team believes that Pakistan is isolated in the world, however, we are going to increase our trade to $5 billion with Iran and every project in CPEC is on track. The Russian's are interested to create strong ties with Pakistan, and they want to invest $2 billion in the North-South pipeline. We are also going to hold the first military exercise with them, so things are looking bright for Pakistan.

I think it is important for humanity that the Muslim peoples be allowed sit at the high tables -- they will not be able to do that unless they have a large prosperous modern country. A country that encompasses Pakistan + Afghanistan + CARs. India is an example -- it was forged out of many formerly princely states and now the Indian people can hope to sit at the high tables.

One fine day the state system will be replaced by a fairer more humane system -- until then I think Pakistan has no other choice but to expand West -- kind-a like the US expanded West or Bismarck unified Germany

The Durand line has legitimate issues -- I think the better solution is to remove the Durand line -- it is better for Pakistanis and Afghans. It will remove the Punjabi majority in Pakistan and the Pakhtun majority in Afghanistan. Why should Afghans be deprived from the sea. Why should Afghans and Pakistanis live in truncated countries.

BTW are you a US citizen? impressive that you studied the US civil war -- all US immigrants should be required to study it I think.

The Prophet (PBUH) never liked the use of violence and he always preached that patience and dialogue are the best solutions to your problems. Sometimes in my anger I do tend to speak harshly on the Afghan's, however, it's difficult not to when they badmouth about Pakistan. Saladin Ayubi also faced a similar problem during his era, and he had to use the danda to keep the Muslim's in line and united against the crusaders. Pakistan and its establishment will never allow Afghanistan to be in the camp of India, whether its population likes it or not. Even in the example of India, their crafty politician Nehru used the Army to force the Princely States to join India at gunpoint. The population grow in Central Asia and combined with its resources is a winning Combo fo development of the region.

This was why the Pakistani establishment was supporting the Taliban before 9/11. Virtually the entire country was in the hands of the Taliban, only the Panjsher Valley was held by the Northern Alliance and Afghanistan was much more secure back then to start the great game of Central Asia. Osama Bin Laden happened and it put an obstacle in our plans. I don't actually like the Taliban myself, however, all states are prone to secure their national interests. At the moment the Taliban through the Haqqani Network fit the bill. It's sad, yet it's the reality.

.

Paktuns are successful in Pakistan, heck they represent the largest percentage of soldiers in the Army along with their Patowari Brothers. What most people don't understand is that within Punjab there are different languages and cultures. Southern Punjab is much different to Central Punjab, and Patowari people are completely different. Personally I want to see Punjab broken up into smaller provinces and have separate funds for their own development. Chongqing from China is a great example, when it became separate from Sichuan Province.

Even if the Paktuns from both sides of the border join, then they will still be a minority. The Durand Line will only be removed if Pakistan expands its border and those people who join us must accept our constitution, flag and sovereignty. They would have to call themselves Pakistani's instead of Afghan's:) But all enemies of the state have to unfortunately migrate, which include that smug fool, Amrullah Saleh:)

I am not a US citizen, however, I find their history unique:) In my spare time I try to read and learn about different civilisations and culture. My personal favourite is obviously the Muslim world but also Chinese dynasties. At my University my old Chinese friends use to give me the nickname Zhang Fei, because I have a beard and was hot tempered:) In America they should make it compulsory for all immigrants to learn the civil war.

curious, where did you go to school?

curious, where did you go to school?

I studied Politics and Economics at the University of Kent. I only did two modules on East Asia, one was China governance and the other was Japan in the world, I wish they offered more variety. I now live in London, however, I always return back to Pakistan and live in Pindi with my main family for a few months. Since I am a retail trader, it allows me to become quite flexible.

what is a retail trader?

what is a retail trader?

It's somebody who trades the financial markets such as forex, commodities and indexes. I focus primarily on the commodity and index market because number one it's halal unlike the forex market.

Fascinating -- a field I know nothing about

This website will teach you the basics , however, you will need to buy proper books in order to educate yourself. A good trader has a good strategy but more importantly sticks to his principles.

lol -- thanks -- sometimes I wish I'd gone in similar directions early in my youth -- I dabble in algorithmic trading for fun sometimes -- I'm too old for this. But thanks for sharing.

A number of large hedge funds use algorithmic trading because they are confident in their strategy. In life, it's never too late to learn any discipline, for instance in the next few months I would like to educate myself in cutting gemstones. Pakistan can become a market hub for semi-precious gemstones, but until nobody makes the base we will continue to fall behind. We can compete with India and Thailand, however, our Pakistani businessman need to use their brain and show more dedication in their sector.

good point :-)

We should master the art of proxy war

Pakistan needs to also master the art of soft diplomacy. India has a strong lobby in the western world because their diplomats and businessmen work together. Why can't we do the same instead of fighting among eachother.
