255 border outposts to come up along Bangladesh & Pakistan border

Aimed at strengthening security along frontiers, government has finalised a blueprint to construct 255 outposts on the country's borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

As per the decision, there will be 129 border outposts (BOPs) along the Indo-Bangla border and 126 BOPs along the Indo-Pak border by the CPWD.

"The design of the BOP is being finalised and it is estimated to cost about Rs four crore to construct one BOP," said a senior CPWD official.

There will be barracks, generator room, kitchen, toilet block and officers' chamber at the BOP.

The construction work will begin where land is available, the official said adding, "It is the district administration's responsibility to acquire the land for the purpose."

Border outposts are manned by central paramilitary forces to check smuggling, infiltration and other illegal cross-border activities.

The Indo-Bangladesh border covers a total 4,095 km. Of this, West Bengal has a border length of 2,216 km, Tripura 856 km, Meghalaya 443 km, Mizoram 318 km and Assam 262 km.

As the entire Indo-Bangladesh border has been prone to large-scale illegal immigration and infiltration from Bangladesh, the BOPs are crucial to prevent it.

Besides the construction of BOPs, border fencing and lighting at these places are also being carried out by the CPWD.

255 BOP's are too little and too late. We need atleast 1 after ever 2 kms on Bangladesh Border.

1 post for every 2 km is a impractical and unnecessary.
i think each of these Bop's will have around a company soldier( 60-70).they can manage at least a 5-8 km of border stretch.

Unnecessary? I think it's insufficient.

We must have an outpost every 500 metres or within comfortable line of sight.

We're not dealing with Canada here. We are dealing with BD and Pakistan.

Only 129 Border outposts for 4095km long India-Bangladesh border??? That means 1 border outpost for every 32km!!! Ridiculous!

as per the report if 1 post require 4 crore to construct & if we construct 1 post for every 2 km stretch of border, then we need around 2000 such posts just in the bangladesh side.so how much will it costs??
8000 crore !!!:cheesy:
& another thing is man power,,imagine how much man power will be needed to guard these posts..

it is best to be bops for every 5 km of border stretch.even then it requires around 400 posts

It's an outpost not a penthouse in Mumbai for God's sake!

The reporter is grossly misinformed.

It doesn't cost more than 10-15 (at max 20) lacs.

And one man per post with all the equipment like wireless etc. is enough. Include 2 men for 2 X 12 hr shifts.

Make a guesstimate.

i don't know how much it costs to construct a Bop ...
you may be right.

But if you go throuh the report,it doesn't sound like a 2 man guarded post as you said..
it will have
' barracks, generator room, kitchen, toilet block and officers' chamber at the BOP"
it sounds a complete outposts with officers and jawans.may be around a company.

do you think all this can be made with only 20 lacs in deserted border area???

You don't need a Barracks, a generator room, kitchen, toilet etc. every 2-3 km.

At most you'll need a kitchen every 10-15km, a small portable generator at every 1km and a toilet in every outpost.

An accomodation per 3-4 km.

And a company is not based every 2-3 km. One company covers a length of 100-200km depending on the company strength.

In any case it won't cost more than 50-70 lacs for every 3-4 outpost and I'm being very lavish here.

It's not that costly really.

I think these 255 BOPs are on top of the ones that already exist. Surely this is not the very first BOP India is going to construct on its borders is it?
