In a battle be it defence or an offensive charge, 9 times out of 10 one who has the higher ground wins. A Bunker situated at a height gives a better view of what is happening below gives, a better firing position. You confuse " at a height" with exposed position.
Let's put things in perspective the great wall of China is 7 metres high and 6 metres wide, whereas the proposed Indian wall well be 10 metres high and 40 metres wide. So would rather be fighting from top of great wall China targeting the intruder below..or would you rather be the one who is trying to target one of the fortifications from below.
