My G/F is not as technically 'geeky' as I am. A long time ago, after a few dates she asked if she could try my Linux box for a change, so she asked me for the password to my user account. I replied: 'STFUMOFO'. She looked a bit hurt and said there was no need to be insulting about the request. I said to her: 'That is the password: STFUMOFO'.

STFUMOFO -- classic

Gambit - it's true? Aren't you cooking stories?

Try this for a pass word....

“The Sixth Sick Sikh’s Sixth Sheep is Sick.”

That password was actually suggested by a kid. We had an open house 'family day' at work where people are encouraged to bring their families and friends and everyone get a tour at the plant. We had groups from Implant, CVD, Photo, Wet Etch, etc...showing their wares and giving tours. I was having lunch with a Photo engineer and his family and talks turn to our Linux servers. His smart-alecky son embarrassed mom with that suggested password.

If you know a foreign language, an Anglicized version of a word from that language included in your password will make your account practically unbreakable. Plus the usual advice about using characters and assorted cases, of course.

I think there are two KINDS of passwords a person needs. The first is for everyday use, where the loss of the password would result, at worst, in a hacked forum account. In other words, who cares? For all of those, I have one password. Makes it easy.

Type #2 is anything financial or that you consider critical. Those, I actually try to make solid and hard to crack.

I'm eagerly awaiting the day when every digital device has a thumbprint pad, so we can get away from these stupid passwords.

Try this: Use biometrics, meaning use measurements of your body, as in 'b(irthday)h(eight)w(eight)s(hoe size)p(enis length)' and anything else you can easily remember but pretty much no one else know. Metrics or English, of course.

So for me in English: b29h72w160s10p12

Seriously......Who's gonna guess...

You guys are just jealous......But seriously, the only people who is going to know these details of you are your parents and probably your MD, if even that. How are you going to forget your height or your shoe size? Am not a stylish guy but I do know some men who have nearly as much shoes as Imelda Marcos. At one point I used my old squadron units and the tail numbers of the jets that matches those units. Dictionary attacks would be useless. May be it is just me but I fail to see how password creation can be so difficult for anyone to remember. There are plenty of things in your life that you simply cannot forget and that no one knows about. As for my G/F, I told her to use her cup size.
