At least 10 people died and 12 other fell unconscious after consuming toxic liquor in Toba Tek Singh district of Punjab on Monday.
The affected people belonged to Christian community and they had consumed liquor in revelry, enjoying Christmas.
Initial reports suggested that a total of 22 people consumed the toxic liquor, out of which 13 affected people were brought to district headquarter hospital where eight were pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, nine patients were transported to Allied Hospital Faisalabad, where two people more died later.
Doctors told DawnNews that conditions of the affectees were critical. They termed it premature to comment over their chances of survival.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Saddar, Atif Imran Qureshi informed that the toxic liquor was sold in the pretext of permitted liquor. He added that the matter is being investigated and assured that action would be taken against those involved.
He revealed that two wine sellers were also among the 10 dead.
"Police does not act against wine sellers after receiving their share of bribe," wife of an affected person alleged before media.

TOBA TEK SINGH: At least 30 people have died due to consuming toxic moonshine in Toba Tek Singh, while dozens are still under treatment at different hospitals, a police spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Dozens were hospitalised after consuming toxic liquor on Christmas in Muhalla Mubarakabad and Christian Colony areas of Toba Tek Singh, police said.
Several other affectees remain under treatment at DHQ Toba Tek Singh and Allied Hospital Faisalabad.
Meanwhile, authorities have formed an inquiry committee under DSP Atif Imran to probe the matter.

After failing to get FIR and possession of residence and all belongings cell phones identity cards through the then corupt DPO Khushab Ehsan Bajwa i went to this gentleman aamir ijaz akbar DCO khushab. He in presence of some unknown character threatened me with arrest and humiliation in his office for talking "harsh" with one of his kahoot health officer wajid and drug inspectors amir and one other who instead of taking action against quacks were witnessed by me enjoying tea and pakoras at the "dayra" of the "big" from the said quacks and upon my protest threatened to write against me. The quacks are continuing their unlawful business to-date in village shahwala Janubi of district khushab. My residence in the village was attacked besieged broken into and looted the next day of the tea party of the said health officer and drug inspectors many belongings including cell phones remain with accused to date. It is always the poor to fall victim to such elements and poverty is blamed as the cause while in-fact it is the patronizing and validation only by such corrupt government officers that is causing the poor people to suffer. I has been years since the incident. No health facility is provided to the village as demanded by me. It is impossible for even a single person to engage in unlawful activity without knowledge and support of high-ups. Incidents like toba tek singh will be berried under the moral weight of the deceased. There have been many incidents like this in near past. Many ijaz akbars SHOs SDPOs Helath Officers Drug Inspectors DPOs keep the tradition going. At most they will be posted to other location but only to expand their network and level of influence. Elite can buy branded liquor or travel to big hospitals. Too many procedures and geographical distances for poor. I wish the top and elite could somehow suffer at the hands of quacks or moonshiners to know the agony.
