From what I can tell, Turkey suffers from a gross imbalance. It has a Europeanized pseudo-secular class and a right-wing Islamist class.

The balanced legitimately secular class are not influential enough. They don't seem to be numerous enough. They don't have any lobbies, just individual intellects.

I don't think Erdogan is the answer. Yes Turkey's elite class has been driving it artificially too far towards Europe and the Islamists the opposite.

Thee has to be a balance. Turkey is a Eurasian country so it should be treated like one.
