$200b economy club beckons BD this fiscal

Oh they'll cross you alright. Unlike you they actually focus on their country and their development. The unalloyed arrogance of several of you is just unbelievable. does it occur to you that even Nigeria is ahead of you in several parameters?

BD foreign exchange balance is $28 billion,40% ahead of Pakistan.

Long term sirs, Pakistan will edge ahead:

Something Burning...:rofl::rofl:

Pakistan always tells us that we are jealous of our neighbors, we are encouraging them to be better, there also you find the problem :yahoo:

Low IQ bharati. Kindly check the post of your compatriot. He was b!tching about Pakistan. Now shoo.

First of all, you say that as if being Nigerian is an insult. Nigeria is already one of the biggest African economies to exist, and set to become the 9th largest economy in the world, so don't make stupid statements like this.

About your arrogance statement, it id not arrogance, it is statistics. BD is unlikely to surpass Pakistan's economy. Despite Pakistan's economic woes, it is finally on the right track. It's economic growth is set to out pace all sub-continental economies, except for India within the next 2 years.

This is not arrogance, it is confidence based on economic indicators.

Do try to keep your head out of the sand, the next time you post something like this.

So Pakistan will soon grow more than 7 % a year on average to beat BD?

Not going to happen dude.

It will happen, in fact, most indicators already suggest that Pakistan's economic growth could be as much as 6-9% by 2020. Even with Pakistan growing at 5%, it will still take Bangladesh a very long time for it to catch up and beat Pakistan's GDP. Keep in mind, Pakistan doesn't need to match or exceed BD's growth rate to actually beat BD, but more than likely, it actually will.

The big problem that BD faces is it's geography, which is already a big hurdle to BD's economy. Unless BD is willing to give up certain privileges to India, that likely won't change. Basically, outside of sea trade, it's land trade is highly dependent on India.

The biggest problem with your comment is that you're looking at how big the growth percentage is, which can be misleading. Most of the Western and European world grow between 1-3%, yet that is more significant than high grow rates in developing nations.

My point is, at least for the next 35-50 years, Pakistan will be well ahead of BD, and the gap between the two nations is set to grow.

Pakistan by GDP because of its smaller land area and population. Bangladesh can overtake by GDP per capita but not nominal.
Just because Pakistan have larger landmass and population then BD,so BD can't overtake pakistan, this statement is naive at best. There are tons of countries in the world which is smaller than Pakistan in landmass and population yet larger economy.Do you want me to count them for you? Bangladesh only have to attain gdp per capita 30 percent higher than pakistan. Then it will cross Pak gdp volume.Pakistan have 20 percent larger population currently. It might become 25 larger in the next 10 years, given higher population growth in Pakistan.

Currently BD's gdp per-capita is around 90 percent of Pakistan. If we can achieve 130 percent of Pakistan, then BD will have larger economy.Giver the highet growth rate of Bangladesh this is very likely in the next 5 years.

Oh I'm sorry it's not the Pakistani posters who went all ape when a thread about Nigeria was posted recently. I'm sorry but you're seriously misinformed about the extent to which your economy has been mismanaged.

My economy? I live in Canada, we're doing just fine.

Next, I'm quite well aware about how mismanaged Pakistan's economy is, but that doesn't mean you're correct in your assumptions.

Also, I don't care what Pakistanis think about Nigeria, because everyone is different with a different opinion.

Quite honestly, the only one misinformed here is you. Your opinion is as useless as your sense of logic: very.

Agreed BD gdp is growing at higher rate then pakistan.

Whether they cross us or not. Stop doing cheer leading and mujra for them.

Lol, by yourself your lazy and loser. When people praise good work of others it's 'mujra' . They're getting praise coz they deserve it.

Loll man thinks a country that doesn't bother to focus on it's own stuff while others are doing a good job of focusing on theirs will be 'ahead'. Not only is Pak economy mismanaged, BD is waayyy better managed. They're cutting deals on ports, roads, railways and trade in real terms (unlike the never ending discusisons and dream projects where even to get the Chinese in you need a 100 security personnel). You're complex is showing. No matter how well they plan, BD should not be ahead of you.

Yeh GDP contest ka faida keya? To see who can spit farther etc.?

How about both Pakistan and Bangladesh economies growing past 500 Billion in another decade?

It won't help Indian economy to have massive disparity right next door on either side, this should be part of Indian planning as well.

Intra-subcontinent trade growth like EU has to be a future strategy....that way you are not dependent on volatile faraway export trade to relatively stagnant first-world economies.

I like how you can simply ignore facts, and the make up your own reality. Ignorance really is bliss, isn't it?

I've already proven that Pakistan will stay ahead of BD, I've brought statistics to my side. What have you brought? Rhetoric.

BD has done a remarkable job, but statistics prove that BD is unlikely to catch up to Pakistan, and there is no shame in that.

but sure, if it makes you feel better, keep believing that BD is further ahead then Pakistan. Meanwhile, Pakistan will continue to grow and grow, as will BD, and neither side will care what you have to say.

Pakistan doesnt need to grow that fast, this is on current statistics. Pakistan has much more resources and land than Bangladesh and its population will be more than 50 million higher by 2050. Bangladesh is too small to surpass Pakistan like that.

While this is silly to compare - we still might remember a few things to compare apples to apples.

Usable arable area in Bangladesh is 59%, India is 52%, Pakistan is 39%, Afghanistan is 11%. Ergo Bangladesh is a three rice crops a year net food exporter. This helps a lot of things.

Bangladesh has an excellent & dense ready-made network of waterways which are excellent and cheap transport infrastructure. Rest of the subcontinent does not have it - at least not as dense. There are several inland container ports in Bangladesh near Dhaka (some 200 miles upstream from the delta) - most of them in the private sector. There is a very large fleet of riverine container ships engaged in that route, some travelling from all the way down in Singapore and Malaysia. This reduces container and shipping costs and reduces dependence on road and rail logistics (which are also growing). Just an example.

Incidentally you can use waterways to float barge mounted electrical power-plants almost anywhere in Bangladesh as needed. Electricity generation has largely exceeded the current need and there are almost no load-shedding or brownouts occurring any longer, in spite of humongous industrial demand.

These are logistical flexibilities that count. What would be the Pakistani equivalent?

Pakistan's population fertility rate is way higher than Bangladesh while Bangladesh' replacement rate is 2.2 people per family (soon to be almost zero growth). Yet skill and employment is what counts - not sheer manpower engaged at low end low value-addition manufacturing. 50 million more people in Pakistan will need skills training which needs superior social indicators as a basis. Are those social indicators e.g. literacy, health, hygiene better than what Bangladesh has achieved?

Let's keep those facts in mind while we theorize...

You are mistaken. BD's advantage is its geography.

It sits astride one of the most economically prolific areas. It has access to India, China and ASEAN!
It can easily plug itself into Indian markets and ASEAN supply chain setups!

In fact, it is already doing this. BD has cut some amazing deals with these parties in the last year - port access, road access, visa-free travel...you name it!

And unlike Pakistan, BD has good relations with India. That means not just market access but preferential access to a market of 1.3 billion people a stone's throw away.

Keep watching and give it 5-7 years. BD will surpass Pakistan economically.

Of our neighbours, the only economies that we care about and affect us is BD, Bhutan and Nepal. Myanmar not for now but in future Myanmar will also be an economy we care about because we are getting connected with these economies. And one cannot proper while the others lag behind. We all need to do it together.

Pakistan is fenced off. People or goods cannot cross over from Pakistan. So their economy doesn't affect us in any manner. Their whole economy can tank tomorrow and it would make no difference to us.
