Indian Navy decommissions two ships
Mrityunjoy Mazumdar, Alameda, California - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
30 January 2017
The Indian Navy (IN) decommissioned two ships - INS Agray and INS Matanga - on 27 January at a ceremony at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.

Agray was a Russian-built Project 1241 PE (Pauk II) anti-submarine corvette, which was converted into a patrol vessel and a trials platform for electronic warfare systems after being severely damaged by an onboard explosion in 2004.

Agray served with the IN for almost 26 years, while Matanga , an ocean-going tug built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders, served for 33 years.

Matanga undertook several roles including towing, salvage operations, coastal deployments, limited submarine rescue operations, external firefighting, and salvaging.

RIP to these ships, they can be used for target practice and then after being sunk will be used by fishes and corals as home.
