Very expensive. At 3.4 million dollars per locomotive, its way over paid. Even the highly reliable American GE heavy locomotives cost just 2.5 million dollars without emission control system and for optional emission control systems add 10% more (2.75 million dollar): Caterpillar Falls Behind GE in Locomotives Race - WSJ

How is the reliability of Chinese locomotives?

Chinese one looks like a Russian knock off:

Vs GE heavy power haul locomotive with a lower price tag:

Might be ToT involved for inflated price tag or else corruption involved like kickbacks or else u have no option but to buy it . U like it or note . Chinese might be arm twisting fir the deal. As u mentioned GE can sell it to u for much lesser price

Then that is good. If they can completely build it themselves (not from knock down kits) then it is a good deal. But over all it is over priced.
