180 detonators and 40 grenades stolen from army base in the southern France - The Economic Times

PARIS: A pile of explosives, 180 detonators and around 40 grenades were stolen from an army base in the southern French town of Miramas, a source close to investigations said on on Tuesday.

The theft came despite France having raised security after a suspected Islamist beheaded his boss and tried to blow up an industrial gases site near Lyon on June 26, six months after gunmen killed 17 people at the offices of satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo and a Jewish foodstore in January.

The explosives theft was first spotted on Monday at the Miramas site which serves as a logistical platform for the French army's external operations, the source said.

A spokesman for the French army could not immediately be reached for comment.

An inside man must be invovled.Still it is not easy to take them out with you from base.

@Gabriel92 What is happening bro ??

As far as i know, there was only a fence that "protected" that base, and there was no cctv. The thieves cut the fence, entered the base and have stolen some explosives, grenades, and detonators..... the MoD ordered the army to evaluate the protection of all its bases.
The 200 acre base is used as a logistics centre as well as for stockpiling munitions used in our foreign operations.
I'm just worried if these are in terrorists hands, imagine what can they do with that....

That is what I am also worried about, No thief needs detonators. Hopefully the people are caught. Stay safe man.

I think this will be let for more security check ups by the French police and even recently French defense minister has said that ISIL is not terrorist outfit but an terrorist army.

WASHINGTON — The Islamic State militant group is no longer a terrorist group, but rather has morphed into a "terrorist army," the French minister of defence said Monday.

Jean-Yves Le Drian, speaking at the Pentagon, said that change means ISIL has to be fought on multiple fronts.

"It is no longer a terrorist group. It has become a terrorist army, which has the capability to act as a classical army — they have demonstrated it — but also to have operations in urban areas and terroristic operations. They can do all three at the same time."
