BEIJING: Pakistan and China on Saturday concluded joint air exercises held between the air forces of the two countries.

The air exercise, ‘Shaheen IV’, was conducted in China with the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and Peoples Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) taking an active part.

“The exercise was aimed at enhancing bilateral relationship and defence cooperation between the two friendly neighbours,” said Air Commodore S M Ali, a PAF spokesperson.

The PAF spokesperson added that this was the first time that three different types of frontline fighter aircraft from various PAF squadrons participated in the exercise.

It was the fourth exercise in the ‘Shaheen’ series, which commenced on September 12 and concluded on October 3.

PAF's Air Vice Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan and PLAAF's Lieutenant-General Zheng Qun Liang, represented their respective countries in the closing ceremony.

Pakistan and China enjoy very close defence ties and hold military exercises on a regular level. The armed forces of the two countries routinely train together to enhance their skills and to foster better coordination when operating in a joint environment.

Indians can use their mkis in exercises with the western countries and we cant use our 16's here.

If your F16 Jockeys fly J10 or J11 they can learn of the machine. You dont need to pitch them head to head.
If a Master Green Rated Pilot files a J10/J11 he can learn limitations of the machine as against his....

So dont worry about head to head combat.

There are many Pakistani members on this forum who are worried about PAF's tactics and capabilities against Su-30MKI Air Superiority Aircraft.

Technology, the fighter is very sane and advanced but it doesn't mean that it is unbeatable, professionalism of PAF can make anything possible and i am sure that they have already developed tactics to counter MKIs, Rafaels, Typhoons etc. All Pakistanis should have faith in their heroes. PAF never disappointed the nation and will never do. Sattar Alvi also shot down an Israeli Mirage over Golan by using his ill maintained MIG-21. Israelis were using all jamming technology but their 2 mirages failed to counter an ill maintained old MIG.

Its not the rifle, but man behind it which matters.


These exercises always helped PAF to implement their designed tactics against flankers and super maneuverable jets. Hope that PAF will also induct J-series jets for air-superiority roles.

It's good to have high spirit and Faith but wit that u also require superior ammos. U may give many times few examples of Mr Sattar Alvi or few other pilots who faced Israeli superior jets with courage however such instances can't win wars. In Holly Quran Muslims are advised to keep their horses ready. In the past Muslims got big victoriesnot only due to their high Morale but also due to superior Ammos (though most of times they were smaller in numbers). I may provide example of Lion of

Missore Tipu Sultan using superior tactics and better Ammo gave tough time to British till end. Meanwhile in Iraq we saw that Iraqis were having nearly no Air power, meanwhile there SAMs and AA guns were unable to do any considerable harm to US superior jets, mostly bombers flying above 60,000Ft.Almighty has given us enough resources we should use them with proper planing whether it is PAF or Metro project.

Every bird has own capabilities and limitations but PAF should also evolve with changing era. Now perhaps era of Vipers is ending we should also look for capable 4+ gen Jets like J11 variants for deep penetration and J10b for Air defense. The J11 variant may be used both for Naval defense and as fighter bombers in case of PAF keeping things simple and economical. We can't replace our entire fleet with 5th gen jets.

Both friendly forces learned from others tactics and gained valuable experience. These exercises are not aimed at winning and loosing like a game, rather mutual learning and mutual operability in case they need to fight together against some common enemy.

Professional forces seldom reveal the outcome from their exercises and they certainly don't go on National TV with false bravado just to cheer the home crowd.
It's a learning experience for both sides, even when the PAF shot down Typhoons and Eagles in the past exercises, the news only got leaked through a third party.

PAF never intentionally reveals the result from these exercises, however some leaked info says, it did pretty well vis-a-vis the J-11......no info on the J-10 scenario.
