In just one day, your shining india sees more than twice the number of suicides that Pakistan sees in an entire month. Why are so many people committing suicide in shining superpower india???

Its because we have a population of 1.3 billion and if we measure by percentage of suicides,we are way behind most of the developed nations.My state have an hdi comparable to scandinavian nations and we tops in suicide rates in india-there are several reasons from family problems to increased pressure on students to achieve high grades..Anyway i can assure you that non of them is doing it by blasting themselves in mosques and markets,like they do in terror sar zameen..

India also has more internet users than the populations of many countries on the planet, doesn't mean that's a sign of prosperity.

I think this topic is so sensitive and we have to take it as humanitarianism not as patriotism....... either a person is committing suicide due to hunger in Pakistan or in India its so sad and in Pakistan we have to take some preliminary actions to overcome on this issue

but for indians "its normal" if some millions of their brothers die read above...

Yet more misleading statistics. Looking at the number of suicides per hour makes no sense unless you divide it by the population.

This is the same error that contributed to the faulty launch decision for the Challenger space shuttle.

you think 131,400 people commit suicide every year in India is quite low ? yar please at least think about that they are also human lives .... 131400 is not a number only but it shows the thousands of problems in the society because of which they committed suicides ..... the factors behind these suicides may be : hunger , social injustice , in case of women dowry related or other things like that , unemployment etc
So there is a strong need to find the solution of such problems so that people are not forced to take their own lives ...

Indian members dont make it habit to troll in every thread ..... this much suicide ratio is a big problem and by pointing fingers to other nations will not help you .... so try to find where the problem lies in your system and then find the solution ....

Ohh.. let us not try to play the 'humanity' card.People die,thats a reality.Its a pity that people are taking their own lives.But we should be alarmed if the rates are something highly abnormal.
Everything boils down to statistics at the end of the day.The stats show we are in a much better position.
India ranks 41 in the list of suicide rates,nothing that we should be alarmed about.We have other far more important things to ponder upon.

Shame also plays a part. The students are committing suicides because they are too ashamed to show their face to their parents, relatives and friends after scoring low grades in exams. In my state many youths caught by police on even minor offences committed suicide after being released on bail bcs the shame of being caught by the police was unbearable for them.
