15 battalions of Indian Army on high alert in Ladakh
New Delhi: The Indian Army has put 15 of its battalions on high alert in eastern Ladakh keeping in view the incidents of incursions there, reports suggested on Sunday.

The Army is also keeping its 'reserve units' units on alert.

As per reports in a leading daily, the move is aimed to counter the incursions of China's People's Liberation Army in the high-altitude region.

Three flag meetings between local military commanders in the recent past failed to make any headway to de-escalate the tension at the border imbroglio at both Chumar and Demchok.

The standoff in Chumar region in Ladakh worsened on Saturday after a second intrusion by Chinese army personnel in two days was reported at another point after they had withdrawn from the same area.

Around 50 personnel of PLA arrived in nine vehicles at Point 30R and they were in addition to the 35-odd personnel who were already camping at a hillock in the Chumar area itself, official sources said, as per PTI.

Chumar is located 300 km Northeast of Ladakh.

The Chinese soldiers immediately alighted from the vehicles and positioned themselves barely 100 metres away from the Indian Army, which had decided not to withdraw completely from the region even after the Chinese PLA had returned on their own to their side on Thursday night, the sources said.

The 30-R post in Chumar has been frequented by PLA often as Indian Army has kept an observation post which dominates the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and gives advantage to India in keeping a vigil on the Chinese activity deep across the border.

The Chinese helicopters were air dropping food packets for its soldiers but had not violated the air space till now, the sources said.

The Army, which had started scaling down operations from the area following the Chinese withdrawal Thursday night, put a halt and again started pitching their tents bracing themselves for a possible stand-off, the sources said.

The tension in this area erupted on Sunday when some of the Chinese workers, who were constructing road on their side, started entering into the Indian side and also claimed that they had orders to build road upto Tible, five km deep into the Indian territory.

The Indian army asked the Chinese workers to leave as otherwise they would face prosecution under Indian laws for entering the country illegally.

As per reports, around 1,000 PLA troops were still occupying six to seven tactical positions in the Chumar sector till Sunday evening.

Over 1,000 Indian troops, too, are maintaining their forward deployment in the Chumar region.

Meanwhile, even though the standoff is limited to the southern part of eastern Ladakh as of now, the Army-ITBP together have reportedly stepped up patrols from Daulat Beg Oldi in the north to Chumar near the Himachal border.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised the border issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping when the latter was on a visit to India recently.

He had said that solving the boundary issue between the two countries was important for growing economic cooperation and had added that a clarification on the LAC was important.

On his part Jinping had said that both India and China were capable of managing the border situation effectively and had added that it should be dealt in a way that it did not have an impact on ties.

 After so much boasting about tough guy Modi, India is utterly humiliated by Chinese bullying in Chumar.

Now Indians are boasting about their army on high alert..... what are they going to do against PLA? Ride a motorbike with 10 men? Show us your yoga moves? Make Chumar you OAD spot?

You still didn't explained how India posting its soldiers within your territory is humiliation for India?

It's a humiliation for India because you boasted about how you were going to roll back the PLA in Chumar. We held firm on our territory and now you have no way to climb down without losing face big time.

Your maps show Arnachal Pradesh as Chinese territory, named South Tibet. Not only does India have several divisions of soldiers and armour and airstrips permanently stationed there, but there are also Indian citizens living there and paying taxes to India and electing their representatives in the Indian elections. Can your mighty army do anything about that, even though you print maps that pretend that that place is yours? Can the dragon breathe fire from its nose for a change, instead of from the backside?
We took a few decades to swallow up Tibet. The time for Southern Tibet has finally come!

If a few intrusions every now and then help inflate your ego, good for you. The point is that India is exerting its writ firmly in places that China thinks it is theirs, and there is nothing you can do about it other than giving useless warnings and a few banner waving soldiers now and then.
Indians boasted about their aggressive posture in Chumar. Now that they are humiliated, the story changes -- "it's just some tents and banner waving soldiers" -- but don't forget the helicopters and heavy vehicles backing up our men ;)

So you think that Arunachal Pradesh will soon be yours? If that doesn't happen in a few months, and doesn't happen in a year, and doesn't even happen in the next ten years, will you finally realize that taking things from India is not as easy as boasting on PDF? You think the time has come to do it, but your military will not do it - how does that make you feel?:D

"Aggressive posture"? Like what, a cobra expanding its hood? Who was boasting, and about what? The facts have not changed - you may come and go in contested territory, but you will not take an inch.

Indians boasted and laughed: "When PLA shows up with tanks on the border, then they can take Arunachal Pradesh."

Look whose laughing now?

Fact. Our roads are already under-construction in Chumar and we are building them into Himachal Pradesh so we can roll tank divisions into India proper and cut off Indian-occupied Kashmir. Once the Pakistan army takes over in Kashmir, then the revenge campaign starts against Indians ;)

Ummm...they haven't come with tanks, and they haven't taken AP. We are still laughing. And even if they come with tanks, they will not take AP. India's concentration of troops and firepower in AP is far denser than China can ever hope to bring there through the mountains. Militarily there is no way for China to send an invading force through the mountains to take AP. It is impossible. They could start a war on multiple fronts, but I have a suspicion that they wouldn't take that much trouble (and losses) for the sake of AP. When AP becomes part of China, mock me. Until then I'll keep laughing.

Ah yes, you are another deluded fanboy who is out of touch with reality. Sorry, I cannot spend time and energy explaining why every pipe dream is a pipe dream. Enjoy your fantasies, may they give you a nice wet dream tonight.

That reminds of me the story "When three men called a Goat a Dog, then the Goat Owner thinks that indeed he is carrying a dog and frees the goat for the goat to be caught by those three men and eaten."

@janon @sreekumar @PlanetWarrior @Aarush

Coming and sitting atop a hill or hilltop....A very uncanny resemblance of 1999 incident? Did someone learnt this from our western friend?

PRC dont take risk like that .Because they know if they did that then India will find its way in to US camp forever .And geopolitical reality will become much adverse to them. They have only two friends .Dont count Russia because they will only care about their own interests .
And that two friends are nothing when Western world steps in to the game.
