14 died so far - Nuclear Biological Chemical Damage (NBCD) team investigated

.
To be honest performance of NBCD team was not impressive. Navy NBCD teams were there on-site for 2 nights and unable to find the source of contamination. Maybe because it was not actually a nuclear or chemical threat

It was the University of Karachi blood testing of victims that finally identify the hazardous material. Still, it is sad that our authorities could not do anything and people kept dying for 2 days. A very sorry state of affairs.

Not really. They were on site to detect radiation and other WMD type chemicals which originally was thought to be source and there was also suggestion perhaps it came from the near by nuclear power plant. If traces for WMD were not found the scope of inquiry would have to be expanded.

Even if it was case of WMD it would still have required test results from the effected person to determine the cause and make a possible traces. You cannot expect the NBCD team to be doing blood test or perform other medical test on spot. You have to rely on medical departments to do that.

It all forms part of the investigation process.

Hi,

Similar stuff has happened in many locations in the world---.

The possible culprit is eruption of carbon dioxide gas from the ground---water reservoir etc---.

In the end---no source no trace left---.

I don't blame you. Unfortunately , a lot of people in Pakistan take allergies and allergic reactions very lightly.

I have actually seen a person getting choked to death because of severe allergic reaction due to the food he was given to eat. In west , they actually ask you if you have any food allergies before giving you food.

Hi,

Death from an allergic reaction would be ruthless and horrible in a way---.

So---the manner of death needs to be looked at---as well.

All 14 cannot have the same allergic reaction in the same time frame and all die within minutes of each other. That fits no known human occurrence of "allergic reaction"
Clearly the team looking at this is totally uneducated in even the simplest of medical examination
Sad
I have seen as much as 30-40 people losing their life due to anaphylactic shock because of hazel nuts. Here in Canada, all schools are required to stock epi-pens to reverse this condition. Its a terrible way to die.

Can you point out the SINGLE incident where ALL 40 people lost their life together in Canada ?????
It would be world news for many many weeks

Individuals can INDEED die of anaphylaptic shock but the idea of ALL 14 being susceptible to soy bean dust enough to kill them all is far fetched.
But Do point me to the instance when all 40 died due to hazel nuts

Maybe you are more knowledgeable than the university team which took blood and urine samples of the affected people..

The material safety data sheet of soybean powder shows tendency to decompose upon exposure to moisture or temperatures above 30 C. Decomposition results in auto heating thus starting the chain reaction. The process releases carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide gases and other hydrocarbons.
In industry, CO is known as a silent killer and if released in bulk has the capacity to kill in numbers. There shall be no traces once the gas disperses in air.

They did not die at the same time. Deaths took place hours apart, even couple of days. This was largely a result of lack of awareness, anticipation, and availability of treatment options in less affluent government hospitals for respiratory failures due to exposure to soybean hull/dust. There is large population living and working in the port area but only few of them were effected. It is likely that these people had prior respiratory conditions, which needs to be investigated.

NBCD and ICCBS (The International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences; University of Karachi) teams were there because people and the media kept using the word "gas" and they are the ones equipped to handle such a fallout. There were, however, no radiological, biological or chemical traces detected by either teams.

Also, even before NBCD and ICCBS teams began investigating people aware of the soybean hull/dust allergies began pointing out the problem.

I think the case has already been solved by a team of UoK. It was Soya dust that initiated a severe allergic reaction. People at the port didn't handle the imported soya beans with care.

All that drama from soya beans...

It is serious.. Soyabean dust is very dangerous.. A similar incident occurred in Spain sometime back when over 600 people got affected..

The soya dust hypothesis is being challenged as several doctors treating the patients have also developed similar symptoms.

Methyl bromide (fumigant) was also suggested as a potential cause.

There was also the strange occurrence of the unique smell mainly at night.

It still could be soya dust (several top doctors have disputed this, however), but there seems to be more to the story.

If there were no radiological, biological, and/or chemical agents/traces present they would not detect anything. They were there because, as I said before, people kept using the term "gas." I do not think soybean hull/dust qualifies as a biological agent.

There is a practice by some states to deny & deflect from the actual cause in these types of incidents... though to be clear, I’m not suggesting Pakistan authorities were covering up.
Maybe further info’ will come out...

I had to look up ‘ Methyl bromide (fumigant)’
.... it reminds of when I came across some farmers using a fumigant to get rid of pests. it looked quite lethal....in its results.

The glass containers were never stored in the way you would expect as is quite often the case in developing countries.
(Only speculation In this case )

Here comes the over-smart Hindu Indian who believes he knows everything.

Many doctors treating the patients at one of the hospitals also developed similar symptoms --- unless they were residents of the same area, this represents some mechanism for human to human transmission.

.
i think someone in govt allowed imported soyabean without check and quality control for their own profits which lead to such disaster
