@Hyperion , you guys are killing me asking for rights of Baluchistan and KPK , genuine concerns should be looked at; why do we seem to forget GB, heck it doesn't even have representation in NA committee on CPEC, what's worse than that? we don't even have anyone to raise our concerns, while there are many reservation on a dry port that should be built and Bhasha dam etc, etc. This sort of colonal behavior is what creates problems.

Too many threads on the same topic!!!

I think all three routes should be developed but I am inclined to the one in the middle of the country besides river Indus but with a minor change. The route could go to DJ Khan from Taunsa rather than going straight through Punjab. This will enable the route to go through All the provinces and mostly undeveloped areas.
Industrial zones should be setup alongside this route and I would like to see new towns setup on the same lines as Bahria town (with all necessities provided).
Economic/Industrial zones setup in Baluchistan will provide employment to the people and also new towns will provide better living standards etc.
Southern Punjab will get developed and furthermore population stress in upper Punjab area will be relieved as people will migrate to work and live in these towns.
Sindh will also get the chance to setup Industries and upper Sindh
KPK can develop its own industrial zones on the same lines and
GB can also have its own industrial zones.

I am not sure if other people share my view. I think we should aim to resolve problems rather than create them. It is better to work together for the betterment of the society and country.

This is good development. Now what the federal needs to do is work on it! this is simply looking at the direction. This is not even moving. Its like looking at the solution far away and they must very quickly start work on these Economical zones especially starting with balochistan ( KPK as well if too much is not an issue) an then KPKs economical zones begin. The two routes can be built together ( I am no fan of the eastern but I don't think its going anywhere despite the chest thumping) but work must be done on the western route and priority must be given to that route.

The politicians must keep sitting together in a flexible manner and talk these issues out and the federal must ensure that all provinces are satisfied. Rigidness and foolishness will bring nothing but chaos and destruction. We Pakistanis chose democracy and now we must act like it as well.

@WAJsal also makes a point that GB must be added in the committee as well bcz without two regions CPEC is impossible. Balochistan and Gilgit baltistan .. KPK very very important but can be bypassed as seen in the western route however balochistan has gawader port and the pass is in gilgit which are the two points of the CPEC.. Considering the difficulty of chitral without these two CPEC cant be done thus they should stand at the top.

But before putting them in CPEC for the love of GOD put them in the GOD forsaken constitution!!

Then comes KPK as the shortest route between point A and point B is a straight line and that passes entirely through KPK. Thus KPK holds great importance and stands the second important

After that we get ourselves the Punjab and Sindh.... which stand the third

I am not saying don't work on the eastern route but give priority to the western and keep answering the reservations of the three regions so that they are well satisfied. I am sure we will keep reaching solutions as long as all parties are flexible an think about Pakistan. ( this goes double for the federal).

Just make sure to start the work on this!!!!!!!

I just want to point out two things...there areas in gilgit baltistan and baluchistan which are far more poor than any area of kpk....
Thar is probably poorest area of country where there is active starvation at the moment...

Today 5 FWO personal were injured in a firing incidence in khuzdar working on WESTERN route...

This project has alot more than punjab in it.... and i expect imran khan to show national level leadership....

I am all for western route and giving kpk more...infact it did not make much news but PM visited peshawar yesterday and met with pervaiz khattak.... although purpose of visit was said to be some thing else....

Today IK was lot tonmed down in a press conference he did....
So lets hope for the best

The first step is to get figures and details out of the government on this stuff, I'd personally like to have available a complete record on every single penny spent by the government and every penny raised and borrowed. Nowhere is stuff like this available, nobody keeps tabs on it, journalists don't bother with it.

All the figures, all the agreements, which need to be scrutinized individually by engineers and financial experts of various provinces, then the thing needs to be put up to vote at the federal level, that too on 1:1 basis, then we can negotiate. The way it's happening now, is not the way even how to cook meal for 100 people.

Initial Work On CPEC Economic Zones Starts

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor offered a window of opportunity that would bring socio-economic development to the country, particularly in the two least developed provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a meeting with a group of Chinese investors, the prime minister said the Corridor was a game changer and all the provinces of the country would equally reap benefits under it. The meeting was also informed that preliminary work on the construction of the economic zones has started.

He said the CPEC was a fusion of multiple development projects aiming at the prosperity and well-being of citizens of the country and the region at large.

The Chinese investors expressed keen interest in developing hydropower projects in the country.

Appreciating the economic policies of the government, they expressed the confidence that the transparent investment regime in the country would attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

The prime minister welcomed the interest shown by the chairman for investment in Pakistan’s hydel energy sector and said that the hydro-electric sector was a priority of the government.

He said Pakistan was resolving its energy crisis by investing in different sources of energy, including solar, thermal and hydro energy projects.

The government had already secured billions of dollars from international financial institutions for the construction of the Dasu dam, he added.

He said that future investment by China’s Three Gorges International in the hydel energy sector would enable the government to overcome the energy shortfall.

The meeting was informed that a joint working group was being formulated under the CPEC framework under which all provinces were being consulted to give technically sound and financially viable recommendations of industrial and economic zones.

The meeting was apprised that the priority energy projects under the CPEC included the Port Qasim Electric Company, Coal-Fired Plant (1,320 MW), Sahiwal, Coal-fired Power Plant (1,320MW) Engro, Thar, Coal-fired Power Plant (1,320 MW) Surface Mine in Block II of Thar Coalfield, 6.5 mtpa Gwadar Coal Power Project (300 MW), Hubco Coal Power Plant (660 MW), Rahimyar Khan Coal Power Project (1,320 MW), SSRL, Thar Coal Block, 6.5mpta and CPIH Mine Mouth Power Plant, Thar, Sindh Coal Fired Power Project Thar Block I (1,320 MW), Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park, Bahawalpur, (1,000 MW), Dawood Wind Farm Bhambore Sindh (50MW) UEP, 100MW Wind Farm Jhimpir, Sindh, Sachal, 50MW Wind Farm Jhimpir ,Sindh, Sunnec and 50MW Wind Farm, Nooriabad, Thatta Sindh.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that Gwadar was being uplifted as an international free port and the government was undertaking several projects for its development.

East bay Expressway II, the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), Expansion of Multipurpose Terminal, including breakwater and dredging, infrastructure for Free Zone and EPZs port related industries, necessary facilities of fresh water treatment and supply, hospital, technical and vocational institute, the only aviation project (New Gwadar International Airport), Energy projects including Gaddani Hubco and Gwadar Power Plants(2,940 MW), Free Zone of CPEC in Gwadar and development of Smart City at Gwadar were also part of the Gwadar uplift projects.

The meeting was informed that preliminary workings on the proposed sites for construction of economic zones have been identified by the Board of Investment (BoI) in KP and Balochistan.

The marked places in KP for construction of economic zones are Mansehra, Nowshera, Hattar, Ghazi, DI Khan, Kohat, Karak and Bannu, while in Balochistan Turbat, Khuzdar, Dasht, Bostan, Qila Saifullah and Zhob.

The prime minister will announce the finalised sites for construction of economic zones in KP and Balochistan after consultation with the provincial governments and the political leadership.

The meeting was further briefed that the existing roads were being upgraded to interconnect different areas of the country, as the 650 KM Gwadar-Surab road was being completed on a priority to link Gwadar Port with the rest of the country. The upgradation of the Quetta-DI Khan road was also imperative while keeping in view its importance.

The meeting discussed in detail the CPEC projects in KP.

It was briefed that KP would play a role in the Trade and Logistic Passage Zone.

Multiple projects would be executed in KP under the CPEC, including rail and road networks like the Swat Motorway Project (81 km), worth $365 million, oil and gas sector, development of Industrial and Economic Zones, mineral processing and development zones, the telecommunication sector, agriculture, and human resource development among others

im also a karachiite, but i believe the deprivation of kpk and baluch people is because of their own leaders and who they elected. why is punjab developing so rapidly? why is kpk developing so fast since pti govt came? its all about the leadership, and its not our fault they kept choosing the wrong ones over and over. ppp crying like a little bitch about this, but i hope the sindhis keep suffering with ppp for next 100 years. im no mqm fan but i know they'll fix karachi somehow.
i hate the fact these people are politicizing a project which is so vital for our economy. the govt has already explained that everyone will get a piece of the pie but still these brain dead worms keep screaming.

At first I thought transparency was the problem too. While it is a problem for sure, even if there was transparency not much would be done here. No government of any powerful country is transparent or honest completely with its citizens or anyone outside the inner circle. The problem is much bigger. Hit the core problem and through a ripple effect everything else will fall into place, including this issue of transparency. You will never have a fully transparent government, but you can certainly get close to it. But again, that is a sub- problem, not what is actually wrong with Pakistan. It is something that can fall into place on its own if the core problem is addressed. Expecting this to be the first step is unreasonable. It's like putting a bandage on a fresh cut without first treating the cut.
