100pc educational, health facilities restored in quake-hit areas: AJK PM

ISLAMABAD: May 11, 2007: Prime Minister Azad Kashmir, Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan Friday said 100 percent educational and health facilities have been restored in the earthquake affected areas in AJK.

"Now we are moving towards modernising the social sector and in this regard he mentioned all those donors especially Saudi Arabia for their help in restoring these facilities totally destroyed in 2005 earthquake in AJK," he said while addressing a select gathering at Madina Munawarah (Saudi Arabia).

After inspecting various departments of a private 400 bedded hospital in Asser, the prime minister said the process of reconstruction and rehabilitation in AJK was progressing satisfactorily.

Out of 1.8 million rendered homeless, only 25000 persons are being looked after properly in camps. The rest of the lot has returned to their shelters, he added.

Accompanying the premier were Principal Secretary Munir Chaudhry, Media Advisor Hameed Shaheen, Raja Khalid Sardar Mahmood, Director Protocol Sardar Said Muhammad and Khwaja Khalid.

The 400 bedded hospital has been built by a private joint consortium of Saudi Arabians and Germans. This consortium is also building a most modern 300-bedded hospital in Azad Kashmir. It is building a chain of hospitals in Africa and Asia.

Out of 30 such hospitals ten will be built in Pakistan. In Saudi Arabia it is constructing three hospitals each with the capacity of 300 beds. One already been built in Madina.

During his visit to the hospital, Prime Minister Attique praised the modernity of the hospital, its equipment and its ideal location.

In his briefing, CEO of the hospital said the construction of the entire chain of hospitals would provide jobs to over 50,000 persons, specialists and paramedics. Each hospital will be a teaching institution. The special feature of the Saudi-German hospital at Madina is that it has a health club, a sort of lecture hall in which members of general public are given education about health and sanitation. The multi-media briefing for the prime minister took place in the same health club attended also by the medical specialist.

Its good to see that GoP has completed the task without utilising the full pledged amount by the donors.

I believe we haven't even received 25% of the pledged $6.5 billion yet.
