Russia is a powerful country no doubt but powerful countries do not clash with each other at times?

It is big misconception that Russia is ahead of US in the matters of defense and research and development in general. Soviet Union had some firsts but same is true for the US; Soviet Union [was] bigger and more resourceful than Russia by the way.

super powers: Russia, America. These are countries that can build thrust vector jet engines.
major powers: Germany, France, Britain. These are countries that can build non thrust vector jet engines but not thrust vector jet engines.

This kind of thing has been a long time coming. This is what Russia gets for its half assed approach to Syria. When ur up against US, NATO, Israel, Gulf nations and Turkey, you either go all in, in defence of your ally or exit stage left. Russia has helped the Syrian government alot, but sadly they have also tolerated foreign countries undermining it like Israel bombing their forces every other week without even condemning them. Now they themselves are being bombed. They don't use their full diplomatic arsenal to defend their ally which is really, at the end of the day all they had to do. If Putin told Trump, or Obama we wont go along with your sanctions against Iran or North Korea until you behave, it would go a long way in helping Syria. But everytime the US demands sanctions against this or that country, Russia meekly obeys and later they get slapped with sanctions themselves. Stockholm Syndrome or in this case Moscow Syndrome. Right now Russia cannot be too brash with its response cause they have a world cup to host in 4 months. Maybe after the world cup they will find their balls. I wont hold my breath though.
