10,000 hybrid cars will join Tehran’s taxi fleet within three years

...The number of hybrid taxis operating in Tehran jumped to 250 as 50 new vehicles joined the fleet on Sunday, the Deputy Mayor for Traffic and Transportation Department of the Tehran Municipality, Jafar Hashemi Tashakkori said.

According to officials of Tehran Municipality, the cars are scheduled to be used at airports, hotels and luxurious places,

At least 10,000 hybrid cars will join Tehran’s taxi fleet within three years, the head of the Taxi Driving Organization of Tehran, Meysam Mozaffar, said in December last year.

Mozaffar also said that 200 of such vehicles have already joined the fleet.

A hybrid vehicle uses two or more distinct types of power, such as internal combustion engine plus electric motor. The use of substandard gasoline in the country’s big cities has dramatically worsened air pollution.
