Attacks could have happened quickly. Border defenses should be not have soldiers exposed to potential enemy fire. These defensive locations need remote weapons systems and surveillance systems, now more than ever.

but should an attack happen drones should definitely be launched ASAP, in hot pursuit across any of the borders to take out the attackers. In the moment the border posts need to be able to adequately defend themselves. Shot spotter system, as well as simple motion sensor radar coupled with EO/IR surveillance cameras linked to these remote systems would allow soldiers to stay protected while being fully capable of holding off even a large attack until drones or attack helicopters/jets arrive.

The word on the border of X country doesn't necessarily mean that country is responsible for terror attack on your forces.

Pakistan has started a campaign of increasing governmental control over tribal areas. That was what Pakistan needed to overcome terrorism along its borders with Afghanistan and Iran. Maybe India too.

Tribal areas usually make smuggling the main source of their income which directly affects the national economy. In order to end the tribal rule in South and South west, Pakistan has to bring the opium and warlords to their knees. Iran cannot sigle handedly handle them along with Afghan Pak borders.
