Wed, Jun 16th, 2010 5:44 pm

Sylhet, June 16 (bdnews24.com)–Indian border guards have rejected the request of their Bangladesh counterparts for a flag meeting over Tuesday's gunfight in Tamabil border in Sylhet that left at least one injured, fuelling tension.

Battalion commander Shekhar Gupta of Border Security Force-1 rejected three to four oral requests, 21 Rifles Battalion commander Lt Col Khandaker Zahirul Alam told bdnews24.com on Wednesday. Tension is running high in the border, he added.

The Bangladesh Rifles headquarters will be notified about the issue, he said.

The BDR had been requesting a flag meeting since Tuesday night shortly after the two forces traded some 2000 rounds in a gunfight at Tamabil border at Jaintapur Upazila in Sylhet.

According to BDR, a Bangladeshi, Abdul Jalil, 35, was injured in the gunfight and was admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.

Locals, however, said three persons, including Jalil, had received bullet injuries.

Of two others, one was identified as Khokon Miah while the other's name could not have been ascertained immediately.

Both were admitted to Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex.

21 Rifles Battalion commander Alam said on Tuesday some 50-60 people from the Khasia community had entered some 300 yards into Bangladesh territory at Naljuri of Sripur border at around 11:30am to cultivate lands.

"We obstructed them but they defied us and were continuing with their farming," he said.

He said they had hoisted red flag at the time.

The BSF had opened fires from Indian territory and BDR retaliated, the official said.

The gunfire had continued for one hour from 12 noon.

The BDR commander said the Khasia people had also entered into the Bangladesh territory on Monday with the help of BSF and cultivated land with tractor.

BDR had protested it but they had not taken it into account, he added.

SO the great Indian invasion was led by a tractor , that subsequently did the in humane act of cultivating the land.

---

but seriously no flag meeting , that's an issue.

and how did tractor cross Indian border fence ?

Illegal Indians in Bangladesh

Mohammad Zainal Abedin , Bangladesh

Though Indian government and its print media relentlessly try to prove that
the Bangladeshis are intruding into India daily, and Indian BSF (Border
Security Forces) personnel engage try to push the Indian Bengali speaking
Muslims to Bangladesh, the reality is totally otherwise.

Wow I did not know the situation was so dire... We are already a jam packed country even though I dont mind foreigner and multi culturalism..

Keep us informed!!!

Do us also a favor, just ask your government not to keep any gates to those fences.. It is creating huge problem for us as BSF and Indian smugglers nexus entering BD through those gates controlled by BSF. Very good job indeed from Indian part getting the fencing done with huge financial limitations.

Why do people want that Poor and illiterate India should make a fence??

You are a very rich country as per poverty index....then have a fence:rofl::rofl::rofl:

That will help poor India from BDR and its militants network from entering India:whistle:

On behalf of all Pakistan Nation, we offer sorrow and condolences to the injured. I hope Bangladesh takes strong action against this aggression by the increasingly troublesome neighbour country

Setting aside history, which remains history ---Pakistan will always extend a helping hand to a brother country, when needed or requested.
I second that!

At first let me apologize sincerely for going off topic.
I have followed many posts made by you.I have an impression in my mind that u r a sensible person.I have great respect for u.I did not expect that u would stereotype an entire nation, just like that.I just expected a higher level of maturity, considering that u r a journalist,as I have come to know from this forum.I am disappointed, and hurt.

I just don't really understand, that from where and why the Topics like ethnic Cleansing is discussed??

Its about BDR and BSF,so remain to that. But its better not to discuss the things which we do not no.

First of all, Bangladesh is not Pakistan and neither you are Bangladeshi. So it would be better if you instead being biased be neutral.

Secondly, we know how much Pakistan co-operative is. Kindly Preach what you practice. And don't bring Indo-Pak Scenarios here.
