$1-bn IAF deal for Swiss basic trainers grounded

i asked about a very simple fact that why should a simple propellar cost so much..75 for i billion mean a unit price of 14 million isnt lca supposedly was to cost 25 million and JF-17 20 million!...
pakistan and china did a deal with eygpt of an advance jet trainer for merly 360 million dollars (110 jets) for k-8p

i am pretty sure if india makes it themselves it wount cost more than 100 million dllars

we are talking of a propeller not a jet or fighter...

.
and forget to state that in my first post i meant aircraft trainers not fighters:pakistan:

WOW the IAF desperately needs basic trainers the Deepak has been grounded and not in use since 2009 in air to air combat the quality of pilot training is a major factor and can help in the meantime IAF should seriously consider leasing or buying NAL Hansa aircraft the last thing we need is another "flying coffin" stage in the IAF again
still to be honest even for 175 trainers 1 billion dollars is way way too much

Any good western product would cost 2x-3x as much as a cheap Chinese one, and 1.5x as much as Russian, and with good reason.
For instance the new GE-414INS engines on the LCA would offer above 100KN of thrust, and much superior technology, compared to the Russian RD-93 and Chinese WS-13 engines which offer just 86KN. The GE engines would cost much higher but offer 25% higher thrust to weight (you just can't put a price to that) as well as twice the engine life (thereby reducing life-cycle costs.)

Similarly, the Mirage-3/5 and Mirage-2000 were much more costly than Mig-21 and Mig-29 respectively, which are on paper equal in performance. But actual ease of maintenance, availability, quality of avionics and lifecycle costs are so much better on the Mirages.

So another scandal is in the making....welcome to India guys...btw i think even the bofors was from your country.....hmmm europeans know how to get contract from Indian babu's....

.
but a k-8p with american engine costed eygpt 300 million for 110 jets..
here we talking of propeller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

175 trainers including spares after sales support TOT for license production at HAL :) but if you ask me i think Swiss bribed MOD IAF officials the reason for picking the swiss trainer cuz it was lowest bidder, but the Korean KT-1 is much more advanced

K8 is not a basic trainer buddy its a intermediate subsonic trainer comparing the PC-7 to the K-8 is wrong

Of course MOD has taken bribes....! Super Tucano should have won hands down. It can be easily weaponized with considerable weapons. We already are developing strategic ties with Brazil. Brazil has already supplied us with R99 jets for AIRAWAT awacs. I don't see how Pilatus won the contract so easily. Even Korean stuff is excellent.

NO the Tucano was never part of the competition. The PC-7 won, b/c this is for basic trainers you don't need anything advanced. The PC-7 has a large fleet in service by numerous countries so spare parts won't be an issue, which is the biggest thing.

true but having a advanced "basic" trainer would give better training to a pilot than a regular "basic" trainer ^_^

For "Advanced" training we have BAE Hawks. And by the way flying skills are developed starting from more basic machines then gradually upgrading to an advanced one.

Its like you start from go karting then gradually upto F1 machine.
