What's new

1,000 Chinese boats headed for Senkakus

So China doesnt have guts to send its navy ?

it's not a game of bungy jumping. this is called strategy. understand!

First they need to cross Malacca Strait right ? A squadron of maritime aircrafts like Super Su30 MKI at Nicobar can take care of whole mighty Chinese Navy intruding IOR . Submarines can be easily tracked by P8Is and how come did you think PLAAN can win over us ? First let them enter IOR and challenge us militarily openly . You know what happened to Ghazi that intruded our sea right ? Our Navy has history of humiliating enemy by blocking them .

Well we dont need to cross the Strait to conquer india in order to take back what you owe us! Why waste extra fuel when it can be used to power our industry.

.
My paranoia is acting up today, is it entirely a coincidence that 1000 small boats with say 6 "fishermen" per boat would just make up a brigade of PLA Marines?

Japan stops them some boats capsise and China claims Japan is murdering their civilians.

Japan does nothing the boats reach the islands the marines establish fortifications on the island and China has the supply ships following to support them.

They do

The Hayabusa class is a guided missile patrol boat class of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Six boats were built between 2002 and 2004.

Specifically: 4 Type 90 Ship-to-Ship Missile (90式艦対艦誘導弾, SSM-1B) is a ship-to-ship missile developed in Japan. It is a ship launch variant of the SSM-1 (Type 88 Surface-to-Ship Missile).

.
So no news from these boats for a while... where are they? Or was this just a big bluff from China's government? I know a part of the Chinese population want the government to take a hardline stance but it seems to me the Chinese government really wanted to stir up protests to rally the troops because of the upcoming change of leadership...

Basically, it's all a big bluff by the government on the Chinese people AND Japan.

Exactly! so what is the point of comparing some fishermen's boats where there are suspected soldiers on board with missiles equipped patrol vessels!

Bluffing or not bluffing, cheerleaders have to wait on the sideline for the shows. It is part of the drama! Have you paid for the ticket yet?

Q&A
Coast guard's potential options in response to Chinese fishing boat armada at Senkaku Islands
KYODO

The government will have a difficult time figuring out how to handle the Chinese fishing boat armada reportedly on its way to the disputed Senkaku Islands:

What would the coast guard do if the boats enter Japan's exclusive economic zone around the islands?

If foreign boats are to operate in the zone, they are required in principle to obtain approval from Japan. However, Japan and China have signed a fishing agreement allowing Chinese fishing boats to operate in such zones. The coast guard will thus take no law enforcement action against Chinese fishing boats.

What would happen if Chinese fishing boats enter the contiguous zone within 22 km of Japan's territorial waters around the islands, which extend 22 km?

Japan can apply domestic law to the contiguous zone to prevent any crime in its territory, including territorial waters. But this zone is part of the exclusive economic zone where Chinese fishing boats can operate.

If Chinese boats approach Japan's territorial waters, coast guard cutters may warn them against entering.

What would happen if the Chinese fishing boats end up in territorial waters?

Coast guard ships would be able to take domestic law enforcement action.

The coast guard is authorized to arrest foreigners engaged in illegal fishing within Japan's territorial waters, under the law on regulation of fishing operations by foreign nationals.

What if the Chinese fishing boats collide with Japanese patrol ships?

If a Chinese fishing boat hits a patrol ship or rejects inspection by coast guard personnel, Japanese officials are authorized to arrest the fishing boat crew for criminal prosecution.

What if some Chinese decide to land on one of the islets?

Police could arrest them for violating immigration laws.

The Diet recently enacted a legal revision that will take effect next Tuesday to authorize the coast guard to seize foreigners landing on isolated islands, including the Senkakus.

How would the coast guard respond if a massive number of Chinese boats enter territorial waters?

It could be effectively impossible to arrest all of the Chinese crew members. Coast guard ships would approach the boats and demand their withdrawal.

So Chinese ships are free to fish in that zone according to the Fishing agreement signed between two countries and not because Japan forces are scared to take action against them, as some esteemed Chinese posters would want us to believe.
