The first Eurofighter Typhoon and Hawk advanced jet trainer aircraft for the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) have been formally presented to the customer in a ceremony held at BAE Systems’ Military Air & Information business in the UK.

An invited audience of more than 100 delegates witnessed the event at BAE Systems’ site in Warton, Lancashire, including His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidi, the Sultanate of Oman’s Minister Responsible For Defence Affairs (MRDA) and the Commander of the Royal Air Force of Oman, Air Vice-Marshal Mattar bin Ali bin Mattar Al Obaidani. The event was followed by a fly-past of a Royal Air Force of Oman Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft.

Chris Boardman, Managing Director, BAE Systems Military Air & Information, said: “We are privileged and honoured to be able to celebrate the completion of the first Eurofighter Typhoon and Hawk aircraft in the presence of the Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs (Sultanate of Oman) and the Commander and representatives of the Royal Air Force of Oman. BAE Systems has a long and proud history of working in Oman, which has been built over more than half a century. Today’s event represents a further strengthening of that special relationship.

“We believe that, in Eurofighter Typhoon and Hawk, Oman has added the most advanced combat jet and proven training aircraft available in the world to its military portfolio. We look forward to continuing to work in close partnership with Oman’s Ministry of Defence as deliveries of the first aircraft begin.”

The Sultanate of Oman announced its decision to purchase 12 Eurofighter Typhoon and eight Hawk aircraft in December 2012. Deliveries of the first aircraft are due to begin later this year.

Eurofighter Typhoon is the most advanced multi-role combat aircraft currently available on the world market and can be deployed in the full spectrum of air operations including air policing, peace support and high intensity conflict.

Hawk is the lead-in fast jet trainer aircraft of choice for 18 international customers. A total of 1,020 Hawk aircraft have been sold or are on order around the globe.

I thought they had already started taking deliveries of their typhoons.
Anyway, congratulations to Oman.
Hopefully, we can bag another order from Bahrain. :)

Well, which country do you think the typhoon is likely to bag another order? Malaysia /Indonesia?
.
As for the saudis, it's more than likely that they will order another 48 on top of the ones they already operate

Configuration? :)

It will depend on what they will get from the US for the $100 to $300 billion arms deal.. if they are getting some F-35s, they might not need the 48 Typhoons anymore..
Bahrain might go for Typhoon if not Rafale if the US continues to deny them the F-16V..

no idea, the typhoon has an inherited flaw that makes countries think wisely before making an order. ita joint venture between 4 countries and all countries has to approve a sale. malaysia will go for the rafale as it is slightly cheaper and the governemt only has to deal with france. prospective typhoon buyers can go through a single country if they desire to purchase the typhoon to ease the purchase and then deal with the possible backlash. from individual countries. examples being the saudis and oman purchased typhoon from us (UK) and kuwait purchased them from italy. indoneasia will but 8 su-35 from russia soon, possibly later this year.
the saudis have money comming from the ground literally and can buyy the latest and greatest with no problem.

if trump for some reason stalls the deal for super hornets to kuwait then they may order a second batch. heck same may apply to Bahrain and the uae which in fact are looking actively for high end fighters

Why the hell Oman is buying typhoon ... they have no external rivalries ...

In price of 12 euro fighters they could have bought any other mid tear aircraft like grippen or jf17 and deploy them in numbers ... these aircrafts can really give the punch which is needed by Oman to counter insurgencies in the country ...

Typhoon is puerly an air superiority which is not needed for Oman ...

In price of these 12 typhoons they could have bought 30 plus grippen or 40 plus thunder with marginal operational cost in comparison to typhoons ...

One needs to take into account the GCC as a whole, as far as weapons integration, spare parts, missiles, maintenance and so on are concerned.. that justifies the Typhoon purchase By Oman and Kuwait and the F-15QA by Qatar..

There is no way Indonesia is getting Typhoons, Australia will definitely object.
