The Karrar tank is being hailed as a breakthrough in Iran’s military capabilities, with the country’s defence minister saying it could “compete with the most advanced tanks in the world”AP
Iran has begun to mass produce a new battle tank as Tehran looks to reduce its reliance on Russian imports to bolster its military arsenal.

The Karrar (striker) tank is being hailed as a breakthrough in Iran’s military capabilities, but it closely resembles the export version of Russia’s T90MS and comes months after Tehran formally suspended talks with Moscow on buying that model.

“[The Karrar] can compete with the most advanced tanks in the world in the three main areas of power, precision and mobility, as well as maintenance and durability in the battleground,” Hossein Dehghan, the defence minister, told the semi-official Fars news agency. “The tank has the capability to fire missiles and precisely guide them.”

Iran previously had turned to countries such as China and Russia for military equipment.

The economy has been boosted by the lifting of western economic sanctions in January last year, after a deal in which Tehran agreed to curb its nuclear programme, and it appears to have stepped up its domestic weapons programme, which also includes the production of missiles, fighter jets and submarines.

However, the United States imposed fresh sanctions on the country last month after a ballistic missile test. President Trump’s administration said that it had put Tehran “on notice” for the action and imposed restrictions on 25 individuals and entities.

In November, Iran suspended talks with Russia over an arms deal said to have been worth $10 billion for the tanks as well as artillery systems, Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets and helicopters. “The defence industry designed and built the battle tank from scratch. If not better, it’s still as deadly as the Russian T-90,” Mr Dehghan said last year.

Despite buying Russia’s $800 million S-300 missile defence system in February last year, Tehran unveiled its own Bavar 373 system in August. The air defence system, designed to intercept cruise missiles, drones and combat aircraft, was tested this month.

and more importantly... where is all the steel coming from? Someone's being naughty!

The Karrar is based on the T-72, the chassis and canon are from a T-72. The side armor is from the T-90M and the turret is based on the T-90SM.

Apart from the visual similarities there is no connection with Karrar and T-90 series !

I can prove that !!!

Considering they licensed produce T-72s, I would say with 99.99% certainty it's Russian. Even Turkey can't manufacture a tank engine.

Who's gonna import gas turbines from Iran?

You are underestimating our capabilities...

The T-90 is a very unique looking tank, I doubt that Iran coincidentally made a tank that looks very, very similar and I also doubt that they just copied the look of the T-90 for asthethetics just because they thought it looked cool. The Karrar clearly has connections to the T-90SM, most people agree on that. How far the connection to the T-90SM is anyone's guess. At minimum the Karrar was a joint venture where Russia assisted Iran in the design.

As for tank's engine. Again I maintain that it's almost certainly Russian. One because Iran already operates T-72s and they have experience with the engine and servicing it and two, a reliable power plant is very difficult to mass produce even the Chinese have struggled and Turkey can not even built a reliable engine for the Atlay, they have to get help from other countries.

The Karrar is not 100% a copy of the T-90SM, of course there are differences but it's too close to be a coincidence.

This is BS again... If you go on details you will understand !

Look closer...

You know we had a plan to buy T-90SM... But everything stopped after US pressure (so much for Russian bear) nobody doubts in Russian back stabbing culture !

But we received T-90SM for tests... After deal braking game we refused to send it back !

Iranian engineers started working on it and karrar happened !

Just they put some remote control gun on it in second picture rest is almost same.

Show me a single video or picture where more than one tank present.

Karrar is no more good than Qaher 313 but this time you people made the toy more realistic

Oh ... I can see who you are !!!

Multi account troll ...
