A nationwide security crackdown was launched Friday, officials said, after a bomb ripped through a crowded shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan, killing at least 70 people including 20 children and wounding hundreds.

The militant Islamic State group (IS) claimed the attack, which came after a series of bloody extremist assaults this week.

“Both the federal and provincial law enforcement authorities and police started a crackdown across the country before dawn, and scores of suspects have been arrested from different cities,” a government official speaking on condition of anonymity told AFP.

He said the sweeping operation will continue for the coming days.

A statement from the paramilitary Rangers said at least 18 terrorists had been killed in operations in Sindh overnight, while police officials said 11 more had been killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Three alleged terrorists were killed during a search and strike operation in Reggi area of Peshawar. According to officials, weapons and hand-grenades were also recovered from the militants.

Security sources said four terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces after they attempted to attack a security check-post in Orakzai Agency. Four more were killed in Bannu during an exchange of fire.

Police cordoned off the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, a revered 13th century Muslim saint, early Friday, as forensic investigators arrived.

Why do we have to wait for some tragedies to happen before immediate crackdowns are launched? No day should be taken lighter or easier by LEAs. The job demands continuous hard work
One word...complacency

1.) Many cells are being monitored to get to their source / handlers, etc. When this kind of thing happens, the decision is made to simply eliminate them --- mostly because the cells themselves are being operationalized and also because the public is demanding action.

2.) All these local efforts (on a tactical / operational level) will not yield enough results till we change our thinking on a strategic level, grow some balls and indulge in some kinetic ops across the border. Unless you raise the cost for hostile states who support these terrorists and introduce the fear of consequences in them, they have no reason to stop making you bleed.

this is not an indictment of pakistani security establishment. usually after tragic incidents like this security establishment goes after people to show the public they are doing something

Take the war to enemy's territory, Does it need rocket science to understand ?
For that you need balls.
Which we don't have, khasis will do nothing,it's common, there loyalties are now questionable but, who will question?

Why can't we eliminate them before they can do these horrendous acts?

Operations across the border carny a lot of political baggage. We are no Uncle Sam to simply show up on a compound and kill our most wanted man. Our operations has to be secretive or we may have to think out of the box for the solution. One thing I don't understand however is that why aren't we utilizing local assets against TTP. From the news, we get the belief that we have a sizable control over the local elements in Afghanistan. why not utilize them against the TTP?

It's like they wait for 70 80 ppl to die before this clean up operation ..why don't they execute this before if they have the knowledge

The time is not far when people who have always gave the unconditional support will start question, you can't always get away by giving statements, kill few random suspects and shift the blames, it's because of brainless and ball-less people sitting at top that nation is suffering, common man and soldier is paying the price while elite is enjoying all the perks and privileges.

The enemy is in our cities and we encourage our enemy by staying silent on radicalization of our society

Because the ones who carry out the horrendous acts are the ones who manage to evade monitoring from the very start.

Given our decades of experience in Afghanistan, from guerrilla warfare to intel collection, we should be able to conduct covert ops behind enemy lines. If we can't even do that, what's the point of our SSG and ISI external wing?

And our leaders fear Uncle Sam a bit too much. When Uncle Sam wants to f*ck you, it will do it without any reason --- or it will use a fake justification (e.g. Iraq). So might as well protect your own interests and not give a shit about what the world says.

I wonder if overseas Mossad assassination case studies are taught to ISI trainees. They should be.

Remaining friends of 25 of those who got killed would be wondering as to why the establishment and the society which nurtured them to bloom, is now happy to kill them.
