Shakeel Afridi’s fate to be decided by Pakistani courts: Nisar

So why is Dr. Afridi being held without charges after his initial conviction was overturned? Why are the Pakistani courts sleeping in his case? After all, this is the same system where the Missing Persons Case went nowhere due to the utterly brazen and shameful lawlessness of the same security forces now holding Dr. Afridi without proper and due process..
If i was to troll, i would have said - Saada banda sadi marzi?...... Try visiting the local session courts you will see many Shakeel Afridis in there........because i do visit the local courts and see an ordinary citizen waiting in queue for Justice to be served .......it is a different matter that when its done.....its usually cold.,.....
So one wonders why US has no interest in pursuing the complete overhaul of the judicial system and why running after a Sellout ( if US version is to be believed) .........he ran a ponzy scheme in Pakistan without following the SOP and getting approval from the relevant authority ------ one wonders what is the punishment for breaking that code in US.........

I think with Dr Death (Afridi) the issue is not what his motive were or not

The issue is he acted against the national interest of his profession and his citizenship

The problem is he collaborated with an "external" entity for a secret operation against Pakistani National Interest

Our national interest were we were kept updated on all matters !!!! ALL MATTERS 100%

  • If the operation was done with knowledge of Military then it would have been ok to release him, the problem is secrecy from Government & Military he wanted $$$ in rewards

  • Our Gov/Military were not informed about the operation and his role and thus he was "Rouge" spy

However secret collaboration with unknown external parties is against national interest and that is why Dr Death is in prison

A doctor's role is not to steal private DNA data and sell it to unknown spy agencies

If angels could have everything their way then the first thing they would have done was to stop the terrorists walking out of courts with "out of jail" cards ...... They could have overturned those verdicts too .........but that isnt happening, is it........

Why would USA do what is the responsibility of the Pakistani State to provide for its people? Getting Dr. Afridi out serves US interests, plain and simple, because he helped in locating OBL. Keeping him captive without due process only harms Pakistani interests far more than it helps, that much is clear.

Because these angels are fools, despite pretenses.

hazrat, US can only get away with chest thumping, SA may be a hero to US but in Pakistan he is a Con, and being dealt with as per the Law......simple it is, US cannot force its interest upon us........if he was of so much importance to US interest, then they should have extracted him in first place rather than leaving him to rot in that shit hole........as Interior Minister gave a Shut up call already, it will be decided by court of law......noone is stopping Justiciary to take up the case by Suo motto.......

That is a contraticdary statement, you cant control everthing or play the cards and be a total jackass at same time

The point to keep in mind is that the national interests of USA and Pakistan are diverging, slowly but surely, with all the consequences thereof. Dr. Afridi is but a mere footnote in the overall picture. Pakistan's pretenses will cost it dearly. Yes, USA will also pay a price, but it can pay it. Unlike Pakistan.

May be he was left behind intentionally to provide the grounds for Pakistan to besmirch itself even more?

There was once talk between Pakistan and US governments to exchange Shakeel Afridi for Aafia Siddiqui, but it went nowhere.

Such a deal will not happen. Aafia will likely die in prison, but Afridi will be released as part of a deal with monetary terms or similar considerations as a transactional deal. The parties on either side are too assymetrical to consider parity.

To be honest - that is what you think --

The US has "absolutely no intention" of diminishing its relationship with Pakistan, the US State Department has said.

The department's spokesman has refused to criticise Pakistan for saying it would look for other options if a deal for buying eight F-16 fighter jets from the US fails.

"These are sovereign decisions that nations make with respect to their defence needs, and it's up to Pakistan... how they'll fulfil their defence needs," Dawn online on Thursday quoted spokesman John Kirby as saying.

Kirby made the remarks when asked whether Islamabad's relations with the US would come under strain if Pakistan bought fighter jets from China.

"As for the relationship, as I've said many, many times, it's an important one. It's critical; it's vital in that -- particularly in that part of the world; and it's a relationship we have absolutely no intention of losing focus on or diminishing in any way," he said.

"But these are obviously sovereign decisions that Pakistan has to make."

After being asked about a Pakistani minister describing the US aid as "peanuts", Kirby said: "I would just simply say that, again, it's an important relationship. We're going to continue to support that relationship."

Kirby defended the assistance the US has provided to Pakistan despite strong opposition from certain lobbies in Congress.

Last week, Congress prevented the US administration from subsidising the $700 million F-16 deal.

Under the arrangement, Pakistan was to pay $270 million for the eight aircraft while the US was to provide about $430 million from its foreign military financing facility.

Pakistan has expressed its inability to pay the entire amount.

That line says it all, very clearly. It is up to Pakistan to decide what it wants to do here, the US side having made it clear what Congress has decided.
