NEW DELHI: As it prepares for billions of dollars of investments in the oil sector following the nuclear deal, Iran today said it will welcome India's participation in various "big ticket projects" in diverse sectors including enhancing transport infrastructure in the region.

Holding that India has emerged as an economic power, Iranian ambassador Gholamreza Ansari said both the countries can work together in mega connectivity projects in the region and cited the deal to develop strategically located Chabahar port.

"India can be always part of any big ticket projects in Iran," he said.

Asked about the possibility of reviving the Iran-Pakistan- India gas pipeline project, the envoy said it was up to India and Pakistan to sort out their differences.

"We are not interfering on these sort of small issues. That's their own problem. We do not get into these sorts of disputes. We are for big projects. It is up to them which project they want to be part of," he said.

The work on the proposed gas pipeline is stalled due to security concerns over the pipeline traversing through Pakistan.

Identifying ISIS as a major threat for the region as well as the world, Ansari said India and Iran can cooperate with each other to tackle the terrorist outfit.

"The most important issue in our region which is the best way to cooperate between India and Iran is to tackle ISIS. We should concentrate on how we can eradicate this cancer.

"ISIS is today not just a threat for Iran or India, ISIS is a deep threat for the region, for the world and for humanity. The way they are acting in the region needs comprehensive and coordinated measures," the Iranian envoy said, adding military option is not the only measure to eradicate ISIS.

Ansari hoped that trade and economic engagement between India and Iran will grow following the deal his country struck with six major powers last month to limit its nuclear activities.

Iran and India can open new horizons for each other and the region only if the political will exists .

I really have no idea whats going on in indian politician's minds , but the clock is ticking .

Bigger projects like automotive industry is already filled with western investors , i hope our eastern neighbors and allies get a wake up call soon enough .

Indian component makers have lapped up all the space available to them at the Iran automobile parts fair slated for November. Twenty-five component makers have booked space quickly, making it a full house, with some companies unable to find space.

“The Iran deal happened this week, but there was anticipation that there would be a breakthrough because talks were on. The auto industry in Iran and the aftermarket was not showing growth for the last couple of years due to low movement of goods. Once sanctions are lifted, original equipment manufacturers from markets like Europe will rush to Iran. India already enjoys an image of a quality supplier with such companies. We hope to expand exports,” said Rajinder Kakroo, general manager in charge of exports at Shriram Pistons.

The industry, led by the Automotive Component Manufacturers’ Association (ACMA), will be participating in the annual Iran International Auto Parts Fair (November 16-19) after a gap of three years. Compared to the normal space of 100 sqm, ACMA opted for 250 sq m this year, said a person familiar with the development. India had a prominent space in the Tehran event, next to the German pavilion, he said.

“ACMA informed the members about the allotted space at the end of June. Everything has been booked. More companies were keen to participate but they could not book space,” he said.

New participants include Bharat Forge and N K Minda Group. Regular participants are Shriram Pistons, Anand Group and Talbros.

Iran, the biggest automobile market in West Asia, imported components worth $102 million from India in the year ended March, up 69 per cent from the previous year. India exports pistons, engine parts, bearings, forgings and rubber products to Iran, mainly to service the aftermarket. Some exports are also done for manufacturers.

Indian oil minister to visit Iran

India is also building Iran's railway network, which the official said, will benefit both Iran as well as India in achieving greater connectivity.

Connectivity was the central theme of the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani when they met on the sidelines of the BRICS and SCO summits last month in Ufa, Russia.

"In the changed circumstances, I expected our ties to gain greater momentum," he added.

India had increased its high-level engagements with Iran since the beginning of this year. It started with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval followed by foreign secretary S Jaishankar, who also visited Iran in June. External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj is also expected to undertake a visit there soon.

TEHRAN, Iran – National Iranian Gas Exports Co. (NIGEC) is aiming to negotiate a natural gas export contract with customers in India.

NIGEC managing director Alireza Kameli told news service Shana a consortium of several Indian firms governed by SAGE India had expressed willingness to buy gas, and had been waiting for sanctions against Iran to be lifted to set the process in motion.

Officials from SAGE have claimed that a 1,400-km (870-mi) subsea gas pipeline fromIran to India – the world’s largest – would only take three to four years to be completed, he added.

India decided to pull out of the proposed IPI pipeline project, traversing Pakistan, due to continuing border skirmishes and conflicts between New Delhi and Islamabad, Kaemli said.

India should commision a project for a seabed pipeline from Iran oil/gas fields to GJ/MH Coast....independent of all this IPI noise that blows hot and cold at various points of the year. The long term economics and security are better for a direct sea-based pipeline anyway.

Also ONGC ought to get L&T to make massive dedicated LNG terminals in the meantime for LNG to be shipped while we wait for the pipeline.

Now that Modi has visited all the Central Asian republics, it is high time to get the Chahbahar rail/road links go full steam ahead all the way up to Russia through Central asia. This network should then be expanded across the Caspian Sea connecting to Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Time to follow up the words with concrete action and a long term solid plan.
