Bangladesh comes window-shopping for ships to Kolkata

Right now by the definition of capital ship, its the Bangabandhu is...

Having any ship too much larger then this would be a problem. Ideally the BN is looking for ships with a diplacement of 3000t like the Turkish Milgen, type 054a etc, nothing bigger....ideally well armed.

I dont get it, a 2000 tonne ship is capital ship, but a 1500 tonne ship is not.

Capital ships means that are main fighters for Navy.

So it isn't as bad in reality between the two countries as it is on PDF.

Ah well, anything that mutually benefits the two countries.

Remember the definition of a capital ship is the largest and most well armed ships in a naval fleet. The Type 056 corvettes are only 1300t and not considered capital ships. The BN are not in the business of buying large vessels that cost too much to buy and maintain, instead they focus on ships that cost less and do the job with out getting bogged down in where they can sail because of the way the bay of bengal is.

The BN short term plan (10 years) calls for more corvettes and LPCs built in Bangladesh, purchase more light frigates, then focus on larger frigates/submarines to patrol the IO in the next 20-30 years (thats why we are building a submarine base and buying 2 old chinese subs for training mainly).

Well you really don't have a choice politically. :D

Either it is us or your ex-countrymen (Khaleda's godfathers).

Develop a third neutral political front and see even they will prefer to be friendly to us more. Trade, commercial ties and geography beat the fictitious religious brotherhood.

Do you have any recent info on the second Hamilton class???

Not much news on the second hamilton, they may have gone cold on the idea. BN have put forward a request for 2 new light frigates with the emphasis on NEW. Plus with the imminent arrival of the 2 new covettes, developing KSY, building the new submarine bases for the training subs next year or 2 and building the 6 Durjoy LPCs etc etc.

The hamiltons aren't really all that, considering the alternatives....though they do provide useful service for coastal patrol and relief operations.

We wont have a blue water navy until 2020 the latest, so until then we look forward to the following:

2 new light frigates (korean FFX or chinese Type 054a / modified C28b)
2 type 056 corvettes (plus minimum of 2 building at KSY)
6 Durjoy LPCs built by KSY (8 in total expected)
2 Old chinese type 35g submarines for training

From 2030, the scene will be a lot different.:-).

Well,a navy officer told me, KSY will built 4 Type 56(for now, they may built more in the future),and the number of Padma class will rise up to 25 by 2025.(Don't know how sure he is about this number though) and BN's internal rumor mill indicates BN is considering a new platform for FAC(M) either based on Padma class or new designs from other countries (this piece of information baffled me the most,as few years ago it was said BN will get new FAC's and will retire the old ones, rather they had gone with mid life upgrade for the existing osa class FAC's :undecided:)

For frigates, personally i would like to sea the real Type 54A's in BN!:p: :sniper:

Well you are correct on most of that info, KSY will build the Type 056 soon after the completion of the Durjoy build. The first Durjoy build, keel was laid late last year, and KSY is still undergoing expansion to get ready for Type 056 builds, as far as I know the plans are to purchase 2 (F101 & F102), build 2 at KSY with a further option to build 2-4 in a second tranche.

The number of Padma is correct, but the later builds will be very different, from what they are now. As for the Type 54a, it may not be the exact same as those in the Chinese Navy, the ones the BN looked at were on display at LiMA 2015 but prices were more then $380m each. Other options being considered are modernised stealthier C28a being built for Algeria and enlarged Type 056 with hanger @ 2200t.

The hyundai built FFX is still the front runner though.

Yeah,That is exactly what we are saying,Bangladesh is never gonna buy ships from India. So no point in over rate yourselves.:dirol:
to ghanta hilane gaye the kya GRSE ko?

we don;t need to buy ships from India we have china south Korea option and our domestic ship building industry too can serve our deman. we are already building corvette from our navy in khulana ship yard
