What's new

Bangladesh comes window-shopping for ships to Kolkata

We dont need destroyers, the largest ship we need right now are covettes and frigates. As I said were already building or in the process of building everything upto corvette size. We will buy 2 frigates ($570m has been allocated/requested) most likely from either korea or china and then buold our own from 2020.
Bro, frigates and heavy weight corvettes also come under capital ships.

Details of frigate?

Thats what I said we aren't looking for any ships from india period. Our navy isn't looking for large capital ships (the bay of bengal is too shallow) were only interested in smaller corvettes and light frigates, most of which were capable of producing at home. Again thanks but no thanks.

Currently under consideration are either the Korean FFX light frigates for around $250m each or 2 options from the chinese a modified Type 54a or upgraded C28b.

Why you insisting like this India is begging for orders from BD. Bro, no one is free to take BDs order. Period.

The whole Bay of Bengal? o_O

How the Delhi class, Shivalik class,Rajput Class operating from INS Kadamba? How the future INS Viraat, a whole CBG going to be inducted in Eastern Naval command?[/QUOTE]

@kaku1 its your media thats making up false news that:

A. Bangladesh wants to buy indian ships, when BN will never buy india systems period.
B. Your dumb jurno, says we dont have ship building capacity.

Firstly the offer is from MoD?
Secondly, GRSE cant take orders from BD directly. It need approval from MoD.
Thirdly, no one in right mind in MoD take this offer seriously, when everyone knows from next year GRSE going to build P-17A.
Fourthly, dont take every news seriously, otherwise MoD making an offer.

Do you know where the bay of bengal is? Ins kadamda is on the coast of karnataka, indian ocean not the bay of bengal. The bay of bengal is very shallow upto 40-50km from the Bangladeshi coastline with depths of 5-20m. So large draught vessels are restricted to few areas they can sail, hence why we are interested only in smaller frigates.

The depth near the shores remain 40-50m. So? And big capital ships require support vessels to keep them out from shores.

Check the Draft of Indian ships.

Overrate?

If you dont buy a thing from a store because of some egos then it meant they overrating things?
BTW check the OPV which GRSE building for VN.
Yeah,as we said no need for window shopping,we have better options!!and it is clear that which ones stupid media was ego boosting!!:flame::flame::omghaha::rofl:
Thats not capital ship.
Actually this comment shows your ignorance about our strategic needs.BD don't need big 'capital ships',they need something that will force those capital ships think three times more before entering BD maritime border!
small but effectively deathly!! :help:

No dude the bay of bengal, has depths of 5-20m about 40-50km from the shores of Bangladesh have a look at the map. Plus the shallows are constantly shifting very difficult/risky to navigate with vessels that have draughts of 5+m and remember with waves and dips ships are restricted to very few channels, else the will get stuck on banks.

Facepalm, even Type 56 for BN is capital ship.

Facepalm, even Type 56 for BN is capital ship.

Not really, a definition of a capital ship is "one of the largest and most heavily armed ships in a naval fleet" these are light corvettes of about 1300t but well armed for the price.

The new frigates will be bigger.

So, which is the heaviest ship in BN right now?

:facepalm, looks like I have failed to make my point. In our book, currently a ship in 2000-2500 ton class is considered as "Capital".Currently KSY is building 648 ton LPC's.It will continue till 2025.They will start building type 56 in 2016-2018 time frame. Then 2020-above will see the building of some real heavy frigates, and it is an strong possibility BD will go after 2,800-3,500 class ships.

So you see there is no need for an super heavy OPV or any heavy ships that you call Capital ship.LPC's and Type 56 corvetts does the job very effectively.

So, which is the heaviest ship in BN right now?
The Hamilton class.It's 3500 ton.then it's BNS Bangabandhu in 2500 ton,then type53h2g class in 2230 tons.

So, which is the heaviest ship in BN right now?

Right now by the definition of capital ship, its the Bangabandhu is...

Having any ship too much larger then this would be a problem. Ideally the BN is looking for ships with a diplacement of 3000t like the Turkish Milgen, type 054a etc, nothing bigger....ideally well armed.
