China Has Unveiled a New Laser System to Shoot Down Drones

@SvenSvensonov

I have some good pics from internet to share here, about China unknown high-power lazer weapon system (maybe prototype). No more details & no more ask coz i also have no idea it just see pic.

China unknown high-power lazer weapon project (news ever reported something), as big as U.S Navy FEL. 8-)

Awesome job!!! The FEL looks amazing and I hope to see it on the Type 055A when the plans for it are finalized, i still think guns (conventional and not rail guns which require larger power consumption) and missiles will form the backbone of the ship, but a laser would make a great defensive addition. Contrary to popular belief as well, fog, surf and high seas don't actually cause too many problems to laser weapons, especially at higher powers. The HEL MD has been tested in adverse conditions and the US is actively testing laser weapons on-board the USS Ponce even as I write this (operation status is expected next year). China should have no problem adapting lasers for counter-battery and ship-borne defense. Thank you very much for the pictures, I knew you were the right person to ask! Very much looking forward to any new advancements. This is one American that watches China's rise with awe and not suspicion and fear. :usflag::china:

As far as i knew, update version 055A DDG launch will be during 2020~2025. If everthing is fine, the China FEL device will out around 2025 year ... still 10years development for China high-power lazer system mature.

Right now no any high-power lazer weapon out in China, Chinese r working for low-power lazer weapon now.

We have already tested our 100kW laser by blinding a 600km altitude satellite back in 2005.

And our most powerful laser right now is 1000kW.

TEA CO2 lasers aren't typically given much thought when deriving a military laser, they are most commonly seen in research and industry, why was China pursuing such a system instead of free-electrons? Is there a benefit? They produce a lot of heat and can burn through metals easily from a close range, but there is a large drop-off in their capabilities at longer ranges.

Yes TEA CO2 lazer has lower heat than FEL & SSHCL, but the best is TEA CO2 lazer can continuous working and very low thermal dissipation coz CO2 can cool down lazer head.

The TEA CO2 lazer has Hudreds Hz frequency, but High-energy single pulse, the single pulse energy as kilojoules. Chinese using TEA CO2 lazer system as CIWS firing bullet barrage which each bullet is one single pulse energy has kilojoules to hit incoming target.

U.S FEL & SSHCL has stable & continuous lazer more high-energy than TEA CO2, but average lazer energy lower than TEA CO2's single pulse, another big problem is thermal dissipation of SSHCL will seriously affect next respond time.

So U.S FEL & SSHCL lazer system need spend several seconds to track pathway of the target, and spend 3 second to burn through it. China TEA CO2 lazer track the target, and fire hundreds of high-energy single pulses like a machine-gun or CIWS to burn through it within 2~3 second time.

A article to introduce Sino-U.S lazer weapon system development and comparison: (2012 public datas, only Chinese)
独孤光剑,梦之坚盾-中国战术激光武器技术路线、指标及最新发展探秘

China TEA CO2 lazer system more looks like type730 CIWS fire, each bullet == kilojoules energy single pulse lazer from TEA CO2 =), and no thermal problem (CO2 cooling) can continue working to deal with multi-targets.

At the same time China also R&D SSHCL lazer like U.S FEL, but now the TEA CO2 lazer is more mature in China Lazer Industry. :enjoy:

if that is a "high power laser system - ...10 years ago" then this contradicts with your claim of low power laser system made in China

Care to explain whether China has or hasnt gotten hi power laser weapons? :coffee:

I was inspired by @ChineseTiger1896's input :cheesy:

There is an identical thread on the subject
China has successfully tested a self-developed laser defense system | Page 2

By looking at post #27 and 28 I am of the impression that these are serious and hi power set ups.
I am the most amateurish of all members in military expertise. I hope some forum experts - like the "Think Tank" and experienced members on PDF can explain to us :-)

Thank you :cheesy:

As far as i read & pics shared here, my personal opinion is China got hi-power lazer weapon in hand and it based on TEA CO2 lazer tech ... but China didn't release this Top Secret to public yet coz some reason like high cost / pulse duration time / device miniaturization / reliable energy source etc ... anyway for China it's not the right time to show Top Secret here. In future sometimes it will out to public like J-20 stealth fighter pics on 2011 China internet. :coffee:

Relax ! :partay: China developed hi-power lazer weapon prototypes and started hi-power lazer test years ago.

#36 Chinese article to understand China lazer project development, it's good for a read !!! Pity is only 2012 datas.

bro, it's "laser" and
"data - 是众数 datum - 是单数“ 与 ” media - medium“ 同一文法道理:cheesy:
还有, 句子文法错了 :-)
