i agree that the heading is a bit inappropriate, but it is NOT misleading. This 'something big' was uttered by some 'senior officer' of yours, so it has been quoted verbatim, so nothing wrong it it.

But my point of concern is that why is it necessary that india has to create a mess out of just anything, hype, hysteria, scaremongering etc etc, that has become the norm of the indian foreign policy??

Really, what exactly went wrong with you guys?!

Ya may be thats the reason we are quite happy. "Make a Lie, keep it simple, keep saying it, they will eventually believe it". LOL!!!

Adolf Hitler.

No one got scared though even if they created so much hype, hysteria etc etc. Lol!! this is nothing you must watch INDIA TV, its an entertainment package, they can cross border and come back in a small media room. :chilli::chilli:

But condition applied:mod:- you should just take it as entertainment.

Nothing big is going to happen, we will keep on discussing on forums India vs Pak all the time, thats all. Peace is the word.

I agree, off late I am seeing this forum is getting converted like any other forum. We are generally discussing current affairs minor news and same old topics. Not seen anything related to defence recently.

I share the same concern.:agree:

Hello everyone,
Some terrorists are infiltrating into Kashmir, Oh my! what a coincidence the same way some infiltrate into our province of Baluchistan from Afghanistan and get all the materials support from:angel:(Look at me i am so peaceful and i am all about economy). So my mind is pondering if the blame game is really a way to solve such issues?

Your mind should also ponder over the fact that Pakistan has yet to provide any evidence of Indian involvement in Balochistan. Read more here.

Well if that is the case, why dont we see any indian member 'agree' that what Mr anthony said is actually vague and lame. What does he actually mean by saying 'something big'? Why couldnt he quantify it? Politicians dont give vague statements, they sure can give dual-facet ones but they dont shot blanks and wait someone on the other side to die!

The heading is inappropriate because it sensationalize the news whereas the content is pretty much balanced....

Thats where the difference in the perception lies.... As mentioned in the previous posts if it is change of tactics then surely this is a matter of concern....No hype, hysteria, scremongering..it is a valid concern....

Really, what exactly went wrong with you guys?!
Nothing... If you look at the defense ministers statement all he is saying is to buckle up to tackle these pigs...what wrong do you see in that???

No.

The heading is valid until it has been molded or manipulated, but this isnt the case here. If you would read media ethics and basics you would know that the heading is always taken from that quote/statement/issue that would raise eyes and attract the readers, and it is exactly this that has been done by the news link, nothing wrong, immoral or bad. Moreover, this line gives the crux of the entire news, so it was perfect fit.

Well that's what you want us to believe.

But for us it shows the shallowness of indian leaders that day after day, news after news they have been creating miscalculated fears and unknowns among their masses and are trying to convince them into "something big".

May it be the news where you talked about 40 plus terror camps, or when your generals said that they dont stand anywhere near Pakistan when it comes to defence, or may it be the case when your COAS 'announced and informed' all that india would fight a two-front war, the basics remained the same-fear mongering :)

With all due respect Xeric, after reading the report wat we may conclude is Mr Anthony is speculating that 'something big' might be going on.From the report wat we come to know is the terrorists used a different approach. They purposefully attacked a vast portion of fence instead of just trying to crossover the fence.Maybe the terrorists r planning to enter Indian territory in large number after they successfully neutralise a part of the fence.

This shows a shift in the strategy employed.Maybe by 'something big' he means this change in strategy only.

Cmon it doesnt always have to be something as big as a nuke to cause speculations. One has to be cautious always.Afterall mistakes in this matter may cost human lives.

You can't be serious about it...Politicians are known for giving vague statements b/w how do you know Defense Minister knows exactly what Big is exactly they are dealing with???? I think it is a mere assessment based on calculation of the threat perception, some intelligence inputs and probably changes in the tactics of infiltrators...

India risks return of militancy in Kashmir: Yasin Malik

NEW DELHI: Indian-administered Kashmir risks a return to militancy and violent protests if New Delhi fails to push a stalled peace process in the disputed region, one of the state’s most influential separatist leaders said on Tuesday.

Yasin Malik’s comments came amid a spurt in militant attacks in Indian-administered Kashmir in the last week, combined with diplomatic limbo between India and Pakistan.

Talks over Kashmir between the Congress party-led government and separatist groups broke down in 2006.

While at least 47,000 people have been killed since the start of an insurgency in 1989, the region has gradually become free of violence in the last few years.

Huge and mostly peaceful protests by pro-separatist Kashmiris in 2008 and 2009 sparked hopes New Delhi may try to reignite a peace process, but both sides made little progress amid mutual suspicion and New Delhi’s fraught ties with Islamabad after the Mumbai attacks.

“The need of the hour is to restore the credibility of the dialogue process,” Yasin Malik, head of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front which pushes for a peaceful campaign for Kashmiri independence, told Reuters during a conference in New Delhi.

“It has taken us so many years with a very hard effort to bring a transition from violent movement to non-violent movement. This transition needs to be respected ... If Kashmiris are not given respect they could fall back to a violent past.”

Many experts see a peace process in Kashmir as key to improving India’s relations with Pakistan.

But New Delhi continues to drag its feet over holding talks with Pakistan, saying that it must first crack down on militants behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

After a year of relative calm, at least seven militants have been killed in separate gunbattles in Indian-administered Kashmir over the last week, including one incident when alleged militants holed up in a hotel in the heart of Srinagar for nearly 24 hours.

“For 15 years I have been propagating non-violence but ...there are signs of frustration among both the youth and the older people, because there were huge protests and no one seemed to listen,” said Malik.

Malik’s history underscores the problems facing the peaceful separatist cause.

Imprisoned as a militant in 1990, he renounced violence and declared a ceasefire in 1994, but he has been often imprisoned and his peaceful aims have so far given little fruit.

“Since the ceasefire I have lost 600 colleagues and been arrested 200 times. There have been three attempts on my life,” Malik said, before rolling up his trousers to show what he said were the marks of torture by Indian security forces.

Last year, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offered to help resume talks over Pakistan and Kashmir. Little headway is visible, but some officials say a dialogue between the rivals is being carried on outside public scrutiny.

“I have no reason to doubt his integrity,” Malik said.

“But he is surrounded by military bureaucracy, he is surrounded by civil bureaucracy. Some of these people are constraining him.”

Exactly it is sensalization as far as heading is concerned...I call it inappropriate you call it media ethics...

Well that's what you want us to believe.

No not really..I am just sharing my POV however seems like you are reading too much into it because all defense minister is saying that something big might happen so be ready for it....

But for us it shows the shallowness of indian leaders that day after day, news after news they have been creating miscalculated fears and unknowns among their masses and are trying to convince them into "something big".
Again this is typical India-Pak attitude...NO matter what leaders from opposite side says we can find meanings from it that suits us....Few days back Zardari said that we will fight for Kashmir for 1000 years...i am sure that would have not have been taken as war mongering in Pakistan and something to be appreciated...

May it be the news where you talked about 40 plus terror camps, or when your generals said that they dont stand anywhere near Pakistan when it comes to defence, or may it be the case when your COAS 'announced and informed' all that india would fight a two-front war, the basics remained the same-fear mongering

All of you statements are out of context and thus giving entirely different picture than what they were intented for....It seems like you have some pre-conceived notion against india and thus painting more than what these statements are about... Since don't want to derail the thread so not going into details and sticking to the topic

I wonder if this is something that might just happen..:

0800 hours
An Indian COMINT officer sits listening attentively to his speakers. Monitoring a tapped Pakistani telephone line. Suddenly a chill runs through his spine, he drop the headphones to report to his OC.

The Indian colonel takes a deep breath.."Size of force and target?"

"Not confirmed but may be division sized sir!! target said to be east within 15 minutes!"..the young cominf officers says nervously.

"Alright..resume your scanning, Ill contact command".

====0830 hours..On secure com link to Indian division command ==

"Its confirmed sir"

"Are you sure?" Inquires the general

"Absolutely, We expect the assault to begin within 30 minutes or so. I am not sure how they slipped our radar sir but I cannot emphasize enough the graveness of the threat"..The colonel uttered with confidence dripping from his words.

"Alright..thank you. keep monitoring, Ill ask for an aerial survey"

=====0840 hours========
Indian defense minister receives the news while reading the morning news.
Within 10 minutes the Indian Forces are on high alert, The Airforce is forming strike packages. Strike and holding divisions are moving out. while tentative plans to recall reserves are being studied.

==Earlier that day==0800 hours==in the Headphones of the Indian COMINT officer============================================
